January 7, 2010 Meeting

The Noon News with Nicholas Ferreri

Although Nicholas' computer is recovering and not up to par he was able to bring us an interesting news report and a list of people with interesting names like Stan Still, Justin Case, Amanda Huginkiss and Anita Bath. The weather... snow, maybe as much as 5-6 inches in some areas this afternoon and tonight.

Announcements

Lou Leitz: I need a few volunteers for an inter-club at the Mason Golden K next Wednesday, January 13 at 8:30am.

Bob Holden: I have a sample of the shirts for the Kiwanis Golf Tournament next June. These shirts will be available, monogrammed with your name and the Kiwanis logo, for $20.

$10 of this is a donation to the club. Sign up to get one, and wear it when working Texas Hold 'em as well.

Bill Maher: Minutes from the Tuesday Board meeting are on the tables.

We have again been approached to sell Lansing Entertainment Books. The books provide discounts at restaurants, and for other entertainment. They sell for $20 each with $8 going to our club. If you sell 3 books to one person they get one free. I have them here, take some when you leave.

Carl Johnston: I have the names of a couple of people who would like to speak to our Club. If any program chairmen are interested let me know.

Songs

The leader: Roger Grove

The songs: "Keep it Booming" "Smile"

Happy Bucks

Larry Pingel, a happy buck to see Dick Skinner here today because yesterday I received an email saying Dick Skinner had passed. It turns out a lady in our office had misinterpreted an obituary she saw in the paper for a Max Skinner. Like I said Dick, I am very glad to see you here today.

Jim McCartney, I have a happy buck for my speaker who you will hear from in a few minutes. I had a good Christmas in Portland Oregon with my daughter and her family. My grandson is a graduate of the University of Oregon and he put this bumper sticker in my stocking that says "Rose Bowl Bound Oregon Ducks" so I have a happy buck for that gift. As a graduate of Ohio State University I did not have to eat duck (Ohio State 26 - Oregon 17), so another happy buck for that..

Chuck Reifsnyder, the Greater Lansing Sports Magazine put out a list of the top athletes in the Lansing area in the last 150 years. I have a happy buck for my 14 year old granddaughter who was included.

Lance Lynch, I have a happy buck for the 20 or so people in the Club that stepped up when contributions were needed for the Salvation Army and also to cover the expense of our Thanksgiving baskets. I think that speaks well of this Club.

Program

Jim McCartney is program chairman for January and his speaker today was Joanne Harvey. Ms Harvey holds several degrees and is a certified genealogical researcher. In her talk today she discussed the resources and techniques available for genealogical research.
