Meeting
Announcements
Yvonne Groak: I would
like to have a meeting of the Community Service Committee in this room next
Thursday at 11:15am.
Bill Maher: There are
sign-up sheets on the tables for the Rummage Sale on Saturday, March 7, at
the Faith United Methodist Church, 4601 S Waverly Rd. Indicate if you can
help with registration, set-up or provide refreshments. The sale starts at
9:00am and items can be brought to the church on Thursday and Friday of that
week at 11:00am.
Bob Nelson: The money
raised at the Rummage Sale will be used to support the Kids Against Hunger
project on Saturday, April 4th. This is a Michigan District
project and it is expected 500,000 meals will be packaged that day
statewide.
Clarence Smith: Jo and I
attended a meeting of the Lansing 150 Committee. Our main involvement will
be at a signature event in September for children and working people. We
will be responsible for the Children’s Tent on one of those days, providing
activities, etc. We will probably have the South Lansing Club assisting us.
As this event gets nearer we will keep you informed of our needs. We plan to
have a Kiwanis banner and I hope those involved will be wearing a Kiwanis
shirt.
The Noon News with
Nicholas Ferreri
Nicholas, because of his
schedule, was not able to provide the news of the day but did provide us
with valuable information regarding the virtues of wine over water.
Songs
Bill Maher and Clyde Flory
provided the inspiration for "Take Me Down to Kiwanis" and "In the Good Old
Summertime" which by the way is only a faint memory.
Happy Bucks
Ray Eaton, a happy buck since
I have not been here in a while, and found myself being the greeter since
Denny didn’t show up in time.
Yvonne Groak, I have a happy
dollar for Lance and Karol Lynch who are celebrating their 50th
wedding anniversary. I was waiting my turn at the beauty salon looking at a
magazine and spotted their picture.
Lance Lynch, my happy buck is
for our anniversary which is tomorrow.
Congratulations to Lance
and Karol!
Dennis Churchill, a happy
buck because we are leaving for Florida and I will be back later in
February. Sally and I celebrated our 44th anniversary last week.
Jim McCartney, a happy buck
for Jo Grubbe who patiently waits for the Club’s audit report each year
however I am happy to say the report has been drafted and approved and this
will be the earliest it has been done in years. Another happy buck for the
pleasure I had, with four other Kiwanians, serving lunch at the City Rescue
Mission last Monday.
I will be gone in March so I will
be making out a check for the Rummage Sale. If checks are made to the
Endowment Fund, designated for the Rummage Sale, you can get a tax
deduction.
Jo Grubbe, I have a happy
buck for our experience at the Rescue Mission. It is run very well, everyone
is very courteous and it is just a fabulous experience.
Clyde Flory, I agree with
everything Jo said and the people being served even thanked us for
volunteering.
Bob Holden, 5 happy bucks for
a favorable solution to a dispute I had with Medicare for a $9,200 charge
for an air ambulance to Rochester, Mn. With the help of Jim Dalton, after 2
½ years an Administrative Law Judge ruled in my favor.
Bob Nelson, a happy buck
since a week from today my wife and I will be on our way to the state where
our President was born, Hawaii.
Program
Our chairperson for the month,
Rick Librizzi, introduced his speaker for the day, Lisa Gigliotti. Ms.
Gigliotti is an Administrative Law Judge for the State of Michigan. Her
discussion today dealt primarily with heath care issues, the Patients Right
to Independent Review Act, etc.
Pot Winner
Bob Holden won the Pot today, and
promptly drew a queen.
"Experience is a wonderful
thing… it helps you to recognize a mistake when you make it again."
