February 5, 2009 Meeting

 Announcements

Rod Conrad: The Prayer Breakfast is coming on Thursday April 9. We will be inviting members of the other Clubs in our Division and the program is being planned. This year we have decided to include a remembrance of a former member, now deceased. If there is someone you would like to nominate for this honor, do so in writing with a bit of information about them and your relationship with them.

Bill Maher: There are copies of the minutes from Tuesday’s Board meeting and also copies of our annual audit review from our auditors McCartney and Company on the tables.

The Young Children Priority One Committee is going to collect for Hannah’s House today, so as the old Evangelist said, "We don’t want to hear any jingling, just let it float through the air."

And don’t forget the Rummage Sale on Saturday, March 7, at the Faith United Methodist Church, 4301 S Waverly Road. Sign-up sheets are again on the tables. Please indicate if you can help with registration, set-up or provide refreshments. The sale starts at 9:00am and items can be brought to the church on Thursday and Friday of that week from 11:00am to 4:00pm.

Clarence Smith: The Endowment Fund review will be available to members very soon. The Committee is planning to give members an opportunity to sign up to contribute to the Fund. More information will be forthcoming.

Jim Dalton: We have been trying to alter the way we raise money from our Las Vegas Nights to a Texas Hold ‘em format at Trippers. The dates we had requested in April and May are not available so we have requested Aug 31 – Sept 2 and also Nov 23/24/25. We are not sure how many people we will be required to provide but it will be considerably less than was required for Las Vegas nights. Keep those dates in mind and we will keep you informed.

Dick Skinner: Rod Conrad and I delivered dictionaries to the Lansing Montessori School and I have here a beautiful handmade thank you card from the students. They also sent handmade gifts for Rod and I.

The Noon News with Nicholas Ferreri

The bad news… it was 3 below this morning, the good news… it had warmed to 16 by 11:00am. And the story of a man in Cleveland who called 911 because he felt he was in danger and then asked the dispatcher to hold on while he completed a drug deal.

Songs

Jim McCartney, with the help of Clyde Flory, bravely led the singing of "Tell Me Why." All ended well with a "Smile."

Happy Bucks

Jim Dalton, I have a happy buck and I would normally give one for each meeting I’ve missed, but I haven’t gotten my stimulus package yet.

Jim Kost, I have one for the MSU basketball team. I thought I was going to a basketball game last night but it ended up being a track meet. MSU 76 – Minnesota 47.

Bill Maher, Michigan plays Penn State and Wisconsin plays Illinois tonight. It is a difficult thing but I have a happy buck for Michigan and Wisconsin to come up winners.

Yvonne Groak, I have a happy buck for my little dog, who in spite of chasing cars and squirrels, is 6 years old today.

Clyde Flory, I have a check for the Rummage Sale since we will be gone when that takes place. I have a kind of a sad buck since we will gone for a little while but I have a happy buck since we will be in sunny Clearwater, Florida.

Terry Holzhausen, It may not be a very happy buck since it is for being such a smuck and paying my taxes all these years.

Program

Nicholas Ferreri is program chairman for February and introduced his first guest today, Kit Carlson. The Rev. Kit Carlson is the rector of All Saints Episcopal Church in East Lansing.

Her appearance today was not to deliver a sermon, but to relate her experience as a contestant on the national TV game show, Jeopardy. She finished second and commented the key to being a successful contestant was to have you head full of useless information.

Pot Winner

Lou Leitz was the winner today. Lou drew a queen. There are only 10 cards left in the deck so someone is going to be a big winner soon. You have to be here to win!
