March 11, 2010 Meeting

Guests

We had visits from two inter-clubs today, 4 members from Mason and 4 members from Mason Golden K.

We were pleased to see prospective members Jason Dombroski and Brandi Eckert in attendance.

 Announcements

Carla Johnston: I would like to express my thanks to all of you for being so active in bringing in new members and for being such a warm, welcome and fun group that makes people want to join Kiwanis. I'm very proud of how everyone works together in our service to our community and each other. Let's keep up the great work and make this year one of the best Kiwanis years ever.

Welcome to the inter-clubs visiting us today as well as our prospective new members Jason Dombroski and Brandi Eckert. William Fluke is interested in our Club and we hope he will be here next week.

On Monday I received a phone call from a gentleman from Kiwanis Division 6. They would like to have a group from their Division visit our Club. So on Apr 22 they are coming here… 57 of them. Our Lt Governor will be here as well as members from other Division 16 Clubs, so I am told we need room for 120 people. We will be getting a head count for Deb and she says no problem she can handle it.

Lou Leitz: We are going to have an inter-club at Holt next Monday evening, Mar 15. They meet at 6:30pm at 4230 Charlar Drive in Holt. This is off Cedar St, south of Holt Road.

We need 4 members from our Club to attend.

Rod Conrad: The Human and Spiritual Values Committee will meet next Tuesday morning, Mar 16, at the Waverly Flapjack Restaurant at 7:30am. Put it on your schedule.

Dick Skinner: We will have our annual Prayer Breakfast here on Thursday, April 1 at 7:00am. Bring your friends, we are again inviting the Kiwanis Clubs in the area. Mason Golden K will have 11 members here. A sign-up sheet is being circulated so we can get a count for our Debbie our caterer.

Larry Pingel: We are scheduled to serve lunch at the Lansing City Mission on Monday, Mar 15. If you signed up, please show up. Check the Krier for the schedule.

Songs

Bob Nelson provided a copy of the lyrics and led the singing of "When Irish Eyes are Smiling" getting everyone in the mood for St. Patrick’s day next Wednesday. Although Clyde Flory was available the piano apparently has a malfunction.

Happy Bucks

Dennis Churchill, a happy dollar for a great time on our vacation in sunny Florida. The weather was great, we had a lot of fun.

Bob Nelson, I have two happy bucks for our prospective new members Jason and Brandi. It is always good to have another attorney in our Club.

Sue Devon, I have a happy buck for our speaker today Kiffi Ford and of course one for Brandi, thanks for joining us.

Clyde Flory, one happy buck for 47 years of wedded bliss. Congratulations Karen and Clyde. A second happy buck for the article on nutrition that appeared in the Lansing Business Monthly featuring Gail Hagbom. Gail of course is the wife of our Greg Hagbom and you can read the article online. Nutritionist Shares Knowledge

Greg Hagbom, a happy buck for my wife and the Lansing Business Monthly for keeping her occupied so I was free to do whatever I wanted.

Don, Mason Golden K, a happy buck because all my inter-club showed up today.

Dick Skinner, a happy buck for my wife who informed me Bert Reynolds was born in St. Lawrence Hospital and not Sparrow Hospital as I said last week.

Larry Pingel, I have a happy buck for the MSU Spartans who defended their title and won a share of the Big Ten Basketball Championship. And good luck this weekend.

Program

Sue Devon, March program chairman, introduced her speaker for today, Ms. Kiffi Ford. Ms. Ford is an attorney with Dykema Gossett and spoke on the Americans with Disabilities Amendment Act. She discussed in some detail how the law treats those with disabilities and how this act clarified who is considered disabled.

Pot Winner

Roger Donaldson won the Pot today and then drew the Ace of clubs
