March 18, 2010 Meeting

Guests

Two inter-clubs were visiting today, 4 members from East Lansing and 4 members from Lansing Golden K.

 Announcements

Carla Johnston: Several of us attended the Spring Divisional last Friday which was very well attended. Our Club received several awards.

The Yard Sale is coming in April, Bob Nelson will have all the information.

I would like to see more members volunteering for our various activities. We don’t want the same people always doing the work. You do not have to volunteer for long periods of time, many times and hour or two is a big help.

We expect a large turnout for the Super inter-club here on April 22. I had a call from Clinton Township and they expect to bring 57 people.

Bob Nelson: Jo and I are working on the Indoor Yard Sale. We need help setting up on April 14 and 15 as well as sale days April 16 and 17. The Sale will be held at the Faith United Methodist Church, 4301 S Waverly Road, the same location as last year. There are sign-up sheets, sign up even if you can only work for an hour or two. We also have signs that you can take to your various businesses to advertise the sale. If you have donations for the sale bring them to the church on the 14th or 15th. If you can’t do that bring them here the week before and we will take care of them.

Rod Conrad: The Prayer Breakfast will be held here on April 1 at 7:15am. That will be our meeting, no noon meeting that day. Area Clubs are being invited. There are sign-up sheets for our members so we can give our caterer a count.

Bill Maher: Clarence Smith asked me to announce he will be having a meeting of past presidents sometime soon to determine nominees for Officers and Board members for next year.

Songs

Bob Nelson again the song leader,… this week "We of Kiwanis" and "Smile."

Happy Bucks

Sue Devon, I have a happy buck for our speaker Calvin Jones, who will be talking about the BWL First Step program and another happy buck for the First Step students who will be coming to their first reception tonight.

Gill Hill, a happy buck for our speaker.

Harold Krauss, my happy buck is for 10 days in Hawaii where I enjoyed the sun and found prices were a lot higher than Lansing.

Lee Dalrymple, a happy buck for this Club who was our mother ship and founded our Golden K 25 years ago.

Terry Holzhausen, a happy buck for a couple of weeks in Florida and an unhappy buck because Carla told me I had to behave myself and I couldn’t carry on about my pet peeves.

Carla Johnston, I have 2 happy bucks, one for our speaker and one for our guests.

Dennis Churchill, I have a happy buck for the Spartans and a win over New Mexico State tomorrow.

Golden K visitor, happy to be here today and since lunch was only $9 I had a happy buck left.

Bob Holden, a happy buck for the weather, they put the flags in at Hawk Hollow yesterday.

Program

Sue Devon introduced Calvin Jones, her speaker for today. Mr. Jones is Director of Public Relations for the Lansing Board of Water and Light. He spoke today of the Board’s First Step program which helps youngsters transition from a school environment to the work environment, involving them in all the various jobs at BWL. Some become permanent employees of the BWL.
