March 25, 2010 Meeting

Guests

Dan Barnes, an employee of the Lansing Board of Water and Light, was a guest of Sue Devon. Dan has made application for membership in our Kiwanis Club. Welcome Dan!

 Announcements

Carla Johnson: I am sure you are aware of the passing of Miller Perry. Miller Perry was an outstanding member of our Club for 30 years and it was just a real honor to know him. A memorial service for Miller will be held at the All Saints Episcopal Church, 800 Abbott Rd in East Lansing on Monday, March 29 at 11:00am.

Keep in mind the Rummage Sale Indoor Yard Sale on April 16 and 17 with setup on April 14 and 15.

At this time I would like us to observe a moment of silence in honor of Miller Perry.

Chuck Reifsnyder: Rick Librizzi was in the hospital for a week in Ann Arbor for carotid artery surgery. Although it was a complicated surgery he is noq home but will not be able to drive for six weeks. I know he would enjoy getting cards and hearing from us.

Dick Skinner: A reminder the Prayer Breakfast is here next week at 7:15am. Please make sure you sign up so we can give Debbie a count. If you are going to brings a guest, please indicate that. Anyone not here and has not signed up, and would like to attend, call me at 322-0049.

Rob Haney: The Eastern Key Club wants to get their members shirts with the Kiwanis logo. I found a place that will give us a good price but their Club is about $75 short of having enough money to get one for each of their members. I thought our Club might be able to help them out.

Larry Pingel: You had the cake last week, I couldn’t be here, but we would like to honor the March birthdays today of Jim Dalton and Bill Maher. Bill was present and commented that he started out as a child and not much has changed (in the past year). He has been a member of Kiwanis since 1982 and was serenaded with "Happy Birthday."

Songs

Jim McCartney was the song leader today and selected "Keep it Booming" in honor of Miller Perry who served as Commanding Officer of the 52nd Field Artillery in the Korean War.

Happy Bucks

Jim McCartney, I have a gold dollar for Miller Perry and also an endowment check in his honor as well as one for Florence Pollack. I’ll throw in another coin for a great week in Arizona, the day we left it started raining.

Dennis Churchill, I have 5 happy dollars for Miller Perry. He was able to tell some very interesting stories preparing for the Normandy invasion. He was a very valuable member of our Spiritual Aims Committee for many years and will be missed.

Oh, I didn’t notice him, one for Harry being back.

Bob Nelson, I have 3, the first one for Miller. McArthur said old soldiers never die but just fade away. It will be a long time before Miller fades from our memory. The second one is for Carol and I, we just celebrated our 29th anniversary. 29 blissful years for me and about 25 for her. The third one is for Dan, glad he is filling out the application.

Larry Pingel, I have 3 happy bucks, one for our new granddaughter, another for my wife who was thrilled they named the baby after her, and the 3rd for my uncle who passed away last week at the age of 100. He was a medic with the infantry in WWII and was there when they liberated the Dachau concentration camp and attended the Nuremberg Trials.

Chuck Reifsnyder, a happy buck since we are leaving for Florida for a month. A friend we had been seeing down there for the last 18 years was 2 months younger that Miller Perry and passed away on the same day.

Jim Kost, I have a buck for Miller, one for my Dad being back and one for a MSU win against Northern Iowa tomorrow night.

Bill Maher, I also have one for Miller and another for Dan.

Dick Skinner, my happy buck is also for Miller.

Gil Hill, and I also have a happy buck for Miler.

Sue Devon, I have a happy buck for Dan, thank you for joining us. Also happy bucks for each of our guests from Consumer Energy, Lauren Youngdahl and Mark Lesiw.

Jo Grubbe, I have 2 happy bucks, one for Miller and one for Dan.

Terry Holzhausen, my happy buck is also for Miller and I was glad I got to see him about a month ago.

Harry Kost, a happy buck to be back from Alabama and another for the Krier which I received every week and heard about all the new members who are joining.

Yvonne Groak, I also have a dollar for Miller, a true gentlemen.

Dan Barnes, a happy buck to be your guest today.

Carla Johnston. I have a happy buck for Miller, it was a real honor to know him.
