April
29, 2010 Meeting
Guests
Susan
Perry, Miller Perry’s daughter, was the guest of Dick Skinner and all of
Miller’s friends. Susan commented how much he enjoyed attending our Kiwanis
meetings and how much his friends here meant to him.
The News
Dan Barnes
stepped in as our news anchor with updates (without notes) on the current
news, sports and even a weather forecast for the weekend… more Michigan
weather. Oh, and he reminded us the LBWL Chili Cook-off is coming up on June
4.
Announcement
Larry
Pingel: Kiwanis birthdays for this month, Bryan Crenshaw, Alex
Norton, Mark Eitrem and Yvonne Groak. Larry commented on important events
that occurred on their birthdates and the comments from Bryan and Yvonne,
"Nothing changed, just a year older."
Jo Grubbe:
I received a note from Nicholas Ferreri thanking us for the Kiwanis
experience he had with our Club in Lansing. He is working days on his new
job and has joined a Kiwanis Club in Fort Wayne.
Bob
Holden: Everyone knows the District Golf Outing is June 7. The
golf committee met this morning and plans are progressing well. I need the
members who are planning to play to give me the information on their team.
New
Member Induction
President
Carla Johnston and Lt. Governor Ruth Milbourne inducted 5 new members today.
Bryan
Crenshaw, sponsor Carla Johnston. Brandie Ekren, Dan Barnes and John
Folino, sponsor Sue Devon. William Fluke, sponsor Darren Duso.
The Lt. Governor presented Kiwanis pins to the new members and Governor’s
pins to the sponsors. There were comments from both the new members and
their sponsors. Information on the new members will be in an attachment to
this weeks Krier email. A hearty WELCOME to the new members and a thank you
to their sponsors.
Songs
Jim
McCartney and Clyde Flory were ready but because of time constraints we
didn’t get to sing "By the Light of the Silvery Moon."
Happy
Bucks
Many happy
bucks today for our new members and their sponsors, however space is not
available for all the happy buck details given by Bryan Crenshaw, Jim
McCartney (his firm was top fundraiser for the Race For Cure), Bill Maher,
Charlie Reifsnyder from Florida, Clyde Flory, Dennis Churchill, Glenn Mulder,
Roger Grove (and his experience with an earthquake in Indio), Bob Nelson,
Larry Pingel, Darren Duso, Ev Beemer, Bill Fluke, Gil Hill, Sue Devon, Bob
Holden, Harry Kost (thanks for honoring him last week) and Jo Grubbe. Our
guest Susie Perry had a happy dollar for her fathers driver in France, 65
years ago. In Miller’s memory he has joined a Kiwanis Club in Paris.
Dennis
Churchill, Bob Nelson and Bill Fluke also made donations to the Michigan
Foundation.
Program
Our
speaker today was Lt. Governor Ruth Milbourne. She commented on the
activities and goals of the Division. She was pleased with the enthusiasm in
our Club and the fact new and younger members are being attracted. She
presented a Governor’s pin to Carla Johnston and Jo Grubbe for the
outstanding work they do for Kiwanis. Ruth also made an appeal for donations
to the Michigan Foundation.
