Meeting
Editor’s note: Some details
may be missing as my recorder and my old ears had competition from a large
fan.
Guests
No outside guests today, however
Carla Johnston was back after her recent surgery and received a rousing
round of applause from all in attendance.
Announcements
Larry Pingel:
Thanks to everyone who showed up to serve lunch at the City Mission last
Monday.
A reminder the Membership
Committee is meeting in my office, The Rathbun Agency, 529 W Saginaw, on
Wednesday, May 27th at 6:00pm. Check the roster to see if you are
on this committee.
Bob Nelson: Although
the weather was not great we had good representation from our Club as well
as other area Kiwanis Clubs at the Lansing 150 Parade last Saturday.
Bill Maher: It is
not too late to sign up for the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon on
Saturday May 30. A sign-up sheet is being circulated. Our participation is
scheduled for 10:00am.
We are having a Young Children
Priority One Committee meeting next Thursday, May 28, at 11:30am. The
meeting next week is at the Eagles Lodge.
Clarence Smith: The
consensus seems to be that we take a little more time in making our decision
on a permanent meeting place. Nicholas Ferreri suggested the Ponderosa might
be an additional possibility to be considered. Clyde Flory has looked into a
room being built at Impression Five. This is a new room on the first floor,
not the one we met at 5 or 6 years ago, and will be available for us to take
a look on June 11th.
We will continue our search into
June and then make a decision at a special board meeting.
The Noon News with
Nicholas Ferreri
Among the celebrities celebrating
birthdays today… Nicholas Ferreri. More entertaining news stories and a
forecast of pleasant temperatures over the Holiday weekend but maybe some
rain as well.
Songs
Roger Grove, in splendid voice,
led the singing. The Kiwanis version of "Hail, Hail the Gangs All Here,"
"I’d Rather Belong to Kiwanis" and our theme "Smile."
Happy Bucks
Larry Pingel, a happy buck to
give Roger some help in identifying a song.
Roger Grove, a happy buck to
give Larry my response.
Bill Maher, a happy buck for
the ten best jokes in Reader’s Digest, eight of which turned out to be
Skinnerism’s.
Dennis Churchill, a happy
buck for my granddaughter who had the lead role in The Wizard of Oz
last night. Another buck for I’m not sure what… but thanks for the buck.
Jo Grubbe, a happy buck for a
great day at the Safety Patrol Picnic. I got to work between the Police
Chief and the Fire Chief all morning long.
Clyde Flory, 3 happy bucks,
one for our speaker… didn’t pick up the other 2.
Bob Hoffman, I have a happy
buck to be invited here today and be a part of your meeting.
Gary Brya, a happy buck for
the Dewitt Panthers win over Owasso and another for the Tigers, 5 wins in a
row.
Jim McCartney, a happy buck
for the 3 weeks my wife and I spent in Egypt and Jordan. One day it was over
110 degrees but we still had a great time
Harry Kost, I couldn’t hear
what your happy buck was for Harry… did you have another hole-in-one?
Program
Clyde Flory introduced another of
his interesting May speakers, Bob Hoffman, Manager of Public Relations for
the Wharton Center. Mr. Hoffman commented on the upgraded facility and their
capability to handle any type of event. He also provided a brochure and
discussed scheduled events for 2009 and 2010.
Pot Winner
Norm Miller was stunned when Bill
Maher announced he was today’s Pot winner, but his good fortune stopped
there… he drew a 7 of diamonds.
The meeting next week, May 28,
will be at the Eagles Lodge, 4700 N Grand River, just west of the airport.
