May 28. 2009 Meeting

 Announcements

Lou Leitz: The Holt Kiwanis Club is celebrating their 60th anniversary on June 15th at 7:00pm. We were their sponsoring Club and I would like to have an inter-club that evening.

Rod Conrad: A new greeter/invocation sign-up sheet is being circulated. I would appreciate getting it filled up today.

Clarence Smith: The Board of Directors will meet next Tuesday noon, June 2nd, at Grumpy’s Restaurant.

Next week, June 4, we will meet at the Ponderosa Steakhouse, 6727 S. Cedar, just south of Interstate 96. The following week, June 11, we will meet in the new room at Impression 5 Science Center, 200 Museum Dr.

Nicholas Ferreri will be presenting the Elizabeth Lowry Scholarship at Easter High School at 6:00pm this evening. I would hope some of our members can join him.

Bill Maher: On Saturday we will be participating in the Children’s Miracle Network Telethon from 10:00am to 11:00am. If you have signed up, plan to be there by 9:30am.

For those going to the District Golf Outing on Monday… we are going to meet at the Flapjack Restaurant in Dewitt and we want to be on the road by 7:30am.

Rick Librizzi: I have not been able to be here for the last couple of meetings, however when I arrived today I found I was supposed to have been the greeter. To make up for missing this obligation I would like to give $25 to Youth Services.

The Noon News with Nicholas Ferreri

This information from the Kiwanis group on facebook. Kiwanis and other service organizations met with Michelle Obama who talked about the President’s call to service for the summer. How will Kiwanis participate… stay tuned.

The Okemos Kiwanis Club has pledged to match any Kiwanis member’s contribution’s (up to $500) if they call in during the Kiwanis hour Saturday, 10:00am to 11:00am. Identify yourself as a Kiwanis member and your contribution will be doubled.

More interesting and humorous news stories and a promise of drier weather for the weekend.

Songs

Taking a little effort, Roger Grove got everyone on key, and then led the singing of "On Kiwanis" "America the Beautiful" and "Smile."

Happy Bucks

Clyde Flory, a happy buck for my speaker today, Dr. Zuckermann, another for the rest of my speakers this month who all showed up and a third because next week I will be in Baltimore for the 50th reunion of my graduating class from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Congratulations Dr. Clyde.

Greg Hagbom, my happy buck is for all the calls and cards I received after having my hip replacement surgery last week. As you can see I am doing well.

Roger Grove, a happy buck for our speaker Dr. Zuckermann and for the urologist who treated me Dr. DeCarlo.

Terry Holzhausen, I have a happy buck for my grandson, little Benjamin, who is coming to visit us.

Bill Maher, it seems Nicholas is getting all the laughs so I have a happy buck to tell my grandmother joke.

Norm Miller, I have a happy buck for our speaker today Dr. Zuckermann, who I see once a year, and for the most part it is a pleasant experience.

Clarence Smith, I also have a happy buck for our speaker and for the 25 family members visiting over the holiday weekend.

Harry Kost, I have a happy buck for my son Jim who is 55 today. This weekend he is baby-sitting his granddaughter and will be testing his parenting skills.

Gil Hill, a happy buck for Dr. Zuckermann… my experiences with him have been pleasant.

Bob Holden, a happy buck for Greg who came with me today and his help in finding the place.

Program

Dr. Clyde Flory introduced his speaker for the last week in May, Dr. Leonard Zuckermann. Dr. Zuckermann is a practicing Urologist, Chief of Urology at Sparrow Hospital and serves the medical community in several other capacities. He discussed diseases of the prostate, how they are treated and spoke in detail about robotic surgery and it’s many advantages. It has become the preferred method for prostate surgeries.

Pot Winner

Greg Hagbom was glad he limped in… he won the pot and then drew an 8 of diamonds.
