Meeting
Guests
Visiting today were 3 members
from the Delta Township Kiwanis Club.
Announcements
Dennis Churchill: On
June 18, Mr. Matias Thelen will be our luncheon guest as he is the recipient
of the Kiwanis Club of Lansing’s 2009 Rev. Julius Fischbach $1,000
Scholarship. He will share with us his history and plans for his future as
he continues his work in Christ.
Larry Pingel: The
Membership Committee is rescheduled to meet Wednesday, June 24, at
6:00pm in my office at the Rathbun Agency.
Thank you to those who signed up
to serve lunch at the City Rescue Mission in June and July.
Bob Nelson: We have 5
members signed up for Holt Club’s 60th anniversary celebration at
6:30pm on Monday, June 15th. We would hope more can attend as we
are their sponsoring Club.
Dick Skinner: With
Roger Grove volunteering for July 16 our greeter/invocation schedule is now
complete. Thank you.
Clarence Smith: Now
that the Lansing 150 Parade is over we are looking forward to our primary
responsibility on Sept 5 and the Kiwanis Activities Tent. There will be 2
tents, we have our budget and now are into the program phase. We will have a
meeting on this tomorrow, June 5, at 4:00pm at Grumpy’s. South Lansing will
be there and I hope to get a representative from the Delta Club as well. We
would like everyone’s support for this event as it will be excellent
visibility for our Club.
Songs
Roger Grove, without the aid of a
piano, had everyone singing "Take Me Down to Kiwanis" and "Hail, Hail the
Gangs All Here" in the same key.
Happy Bucks
Bob Nelson, I have a happy
buck for Bob Holden for driving all the way to Tawas with a group of ‘wanna
be’ golfers.
Jeff Lorencen, I have 2 happy
bucks, one for Bob driving and one for Larry keeping us entertained.
Carla Johnston, a happy buck
for our speaker and another for today, my one year anniversary being cancer
free.
Dennis Churchill, my happy
buck is for my lovely wife Sally… you may have noticed she was in the
paper on Monday for receiving the "Humanitarian of the Year" award from the
Zonta Club of Lansing. Congratulations Sally!
Larry Pingel, a happy buck
for the golf outing on Monday and another for a quiet weekend coming up, my
wife and daughters are all going to Chicago.
Roger Grove, a happy buck for
Chuck Reifsnyder for his courageous effort getting through the golf outing
on Monday. We loved it Chuck.
Chuck Reifsnyder, a happy
buck for the truth of the matter… it was hit the ‘ball and drag Chuck’ all
day, but I had a great time.
Terry Holzhausen, a happy
buck for my daughter and grandson who are visiting all week long.
Bob Holden, I think this is a
happy buck we have 4 grandchildren, 1 through 9, coming from Arizona
tomorrow. I am going to take my Lansing grandkids in my motor home and pick
them up at the airport. Wish me luck
Gary Brya, a unhappy buck for
Dewitt’s loss in the Diamond Classic but a happy buck because they are
playing for the Regional Championship on Saturday.
Judy, a happy buck for the
opportunity to visit today.
Roger Grove, a happy buck for
my granddaughter in California, who graduated with a major in marketing and
is now working. She called me yesterday to tell me she just made here third
$800 sale.
Program
Program chairperson, Carla
Johnston, introduced her speaker for the day, Richard Baldwin. Mr. Baldwin
is a retired teacher and author of several novels, the latest is "Murder at
the Ingham County Fair." He commented on how the stories for his novels
develop as well as some of his experiences in publishing and marketing his
books. Google "Buttonwood Press" for more information on this author and the
books he has published.
Pot Winner
And the winner today Terry
Holzhausen… sorry no joker this week.
