June 10, 2010 Meeting

The Noon News

Dan Barnes updated us with news from around the world as well as the oil spill, sports, the Izzo story, new movies coming this weekend and the prospect of the ex-Detroit Mayor winding up in boot camp.

 Announcements

Jim Dalton: There are signup sheets on the tables for the Trippers Texas Hold ‘em on June 28, 29 and 30. Many of you have done this and know this is pretty easy duty, selling chips redeeming chips and a little paper work. We need your help again.

Lou Leitz: We would like to have an inter-club with the South Lansing Club at Grumpy’s Restaurant on Friday, June 18 at 7:30am. I need a few volunteers.

Yvonne Groak: The Community Services Committee will meet here next Thursday, June 17, at 11:15am. Committee members please plan to attend.

Dennis Churchill: The Spiritual Aims Committee will meet at the Waverly Road Flapjack Restaurant next Tuesday at 7:30am. See you there.

Carla Johnston: The minutes of June Board meeting are on the tables for your information.

Thanks to all who helped make the Golf Outing on Monday a success.

Songs

Jim McCartney was the song leader this week with "I’d Rather Belong to Kiwanis" and "Smile."

Happy Buck$

Bryan Crenshaw, a happy buck for our speaker, another for the Golf Outing, one for my nephew’s baseball team and although Larry had to leave early I have a proclamation from the Governor regarding Galaraga’s perfect game.

Jim McCartney, I won’t be here for the next few Thursday’s, so I have a happy buck and need to put on the record the 60th Wedding Anniversary my wife Mary and I will be celebrating on July 1. Congratulations Mary and Jim.

Jo Grubbe, I have a happy buck for the perfect weather we had for the Golf Outing on Monday.

Greg Hagbom, a happy buck for all those who helped at the Golf Outing, especially Bob Holden and Bill Maher who did an outstanding job.

Rob Haney, a happy buck for my daughters 16th birthday today. We are taking her to Cedar Point to celebrate.

Bill Maher, a happy buck for a successful Golf Outing and especially for Greg Hagbom who did his usual excellent job of making sure all the "bases" were covered.

Terry Holzhausen, a couple of happy bucks for the Golf Outing and my upcoming trips... up North and then a 3 week motorcycle trip.

Sue Devon, a happy buck for the BWL Chili cook-off last Friday. Even though we got rained out I’d like to thank everyone from the Club that joined us.

Bob Holden, I have a bunch of happy bucks for every volunteer that helped on Monday. The support of the Club members was amazing.

Billie O’Berry, a happy buck go be invited today, the only dollar I have after paying the $3 parking fee at Sparrow Hospital.

Trina Pulver, a happy buck for my speaker because Carla said if she didn’t show I had to sing and dance.

Harry Kost, a happy buck for the Golf Outing and the great weather. My wife also enjoyed it… she had more fun than I did.

Program

Trina Pulver, introduced another of her interesting speakers, Billie O’Berry. Ms. O’Berry, an attorney and teacher at Cooley Law School, commented on the coming circuit court election and discussed the medical marijuana law.

Pot Winner

Sue Devon was today’s lucky winner. Sue drew a 3 of diamonds.
