Lubick, advisor to the Eastern High School Key Club, and his daughter Jenny
were guests today of Rob Haney.
Dan
Barnes and the Noon News
Dan had
all the news of the day… Izzo, BP oil spill, rats in the New York subway,
the Beer Pong Championship and more. You just have to be here to get it all.
Announcements
Carla
Johnston: I would like to note that next week Sue Devon and I
will not be here. We will be at the Kiwanis International Convention in Las
Vegas. After that I will be visiting my daughter in Texas where she is
expecting a baby.
Lou Leitz:
We will be having an inter-club with the South Lansing Club at Grumpy’s
Restaurant tomorrow morning at 7:30am.
Larry
Pingel: We have the required 40 reservations for the Tiger
Baseball bus trip to Comerica Park on August 21. However the bus will
accommodate 50, so if you have someone else who would like to go, let me
know. I need to know by next week. It is Dean Transportation, the bus will
have a bathroom and you can bring you own refreshments. For those going… the
cost is $75 and includes transportation and a $52 ticket to the game. You
can write a check to the Club and you need to pay by August 1.
Yvonne Groak: Well I forgot today was the day to celebrate
birthdays, however we do have the cake. We will honor the birthdays next
week so get your speeches ready.
Songs
Bob
Nelson, recognizing Flag Day which was last Monday, selected an old favorite
"She’s a Grand Old Flag" and of course our theme song "Smile."
Happy
Bucks
Bob
Nelson, I have 3 happy bucks, one I just got back from the Gulf Coast
and saw them working hard to contain the oil in Mobile Bay. Another for our
speaker today who I taught Energy Law at Michigan State (he stayed awake)
and the third for Tom Izzo who made a lot of Spartans happy but some U of M
fans and the folks in Cleveland unhappy.
Larry
Pingel, a happy buck for Bryan Crenshaw who gave me a copy of Governor
Granholm’s Gubernatorial Proclamation recognizing the perfect game (looked
perfect to me) pitched by Armando Galaraga. I am going to have it framed and
hung in my office.
Rob Haney,
a happy buck for Joel Lubick and all he does for the kids at Eastern
where he has been an advisor to the Key Club for 16 yrs. Another happy buck
for surviving a day at Cedar Point with my daughter and 7 of her friends.
Roger
Grove, a happy buck for the kids at Eastern where I went… well not too
long ago. Another for the golf experience I had on Tuesday at Walnut Hills.
A 62 year old fellow played with us and I was in awe of him all day. On the
first hole I hit a pretty good drive and he hit it 90 yards past me. It was
like that all day long… swoosh… and he hits it out of site, curves it when
he wants too. I was amazed.
Bill
Maher, a happy buck for Roger’s stand-up presentation, one of the better
I’ve seen.
Gary Brya,
a happy buck for my wife who is coming home after 2 weeks in Florida and
Savannah because the laundry and dishes are piling up.
Dick
Skinner, a happy buck for all on the golf committee, you did a fantastic
job. Another for my trip to Wisconsin where I spent a day with my grandson’s
at a water park.
Program
Dick
Skinner, sitting in for program chairman Trina Pulver, introduced today’s
speaker Eric Masterovich. Mr. Masterovich is an attorney and spoke today on
the Michigan medical marihuana law, it’s vagueness and potential loopholes.
Pot
Winner
And the
winner was… Gary Brya. No joker.
Scheduled
to serve lunch at the City Mission next Monday June 21:
Norm
Miller, Jo Grubbe, Dick Skinner, Jim Kost
