Meeting
Guests
Ed LeMay, former member and now
living in Florida, was a guest today of Dennis Churchill.
Announcements
Lou Leitz: We have 3
inter-clubs to complete this year. We will be at Eaton Rapids at noon next
Tuesday, June 30. I have members lined up for Eaton Rapids. On July 13 we
will be at the East Lansing Club, also at noon. I need a couple more
volunteers for East Lansing. The last one will be Delta Township on August
13.
Bob Holden: I think
you are aware we were awarded the Michigan District Golf Outing for next
year. I think we should think about using this to recruit new members. It
will be on June 7, 2009 at Royal Scot. I don’t think we should restrict it
to Kiwanians. We have a year to plan so give it some thought.
Norm Miller: Bob
Nelson asked me to mention the Holt Club’s 60th anniversary
dinner has be rescheduled for Monday evening July 13th. They meet
at 6:30pm at the Charlar Place, 4230 Charlar Dr, Holt. Charlar Dr is off
Cedar Street, ¾ mile south of Holt Road. The cost is $8.00 per person.
Gary Brya: I am the
program chairman for July and I think you will find the programs
interesting. Speakers from Biggy Coffee, City of Lansing Parks, a bike ride
from East Lansing to Mexico and a survivor of the USS Indianapolis. See the
speaker listing above.
Clarence Smith: Jo
and I have been attending the planning meetings to plan our involvement in
the Kiwanis activity tents at the Lansing 150 LaborFest on Sept 5 from
11:00am to 5:00pm. I would like to get more people involved since this is an
opportunity for free publicity and advertising for our Club. There will 3
tents with a $650 budget for each tent provided by the city. There will be
separate tents for the different age groups, with 2 activities and 2 crafts
in each tent. Other Kiwanis Clubs will be involved, our tent will be 5-8
year olds. Contact Jo, Bob Nelson or myself to get involved.
Jim Dalton: To
replace our Las Vegas nights we have hooked up with Texas Hold ‘Em at
Trippers. The first event we have to staff is Aug 31 through Sept 2. That is
the Mon, Tue and Wed prior to Labor Day. The second event for us is Nov 23 –
Nov 25, the Mon, Tue and Wed prior to Thanksgiving. Staffing will be
required from noon to 1:00am each day. We are required to have 2-3 people at
all times all 3 days so we will have to split that up in shifts. All
equipment and dealers are provided, our jobs will be selling chips, taking
money and doing some paperwork.
The Noon News with
Nicholas Ferreri
The news today is… there is no
news since Nicholas, Bill Maher, Carla Johnston and Bob Nelson are at the Kiwanis
International Convention in Nashville.
Songs
Clyde was back and Roger was
leading… "Sweet Adeline" (it is thought Roger hit HI C on this one) "Daisy
Bell" and "Smile."
Happy Bucks
Ray Easton, a happy buck to
be here today, you may not remember me but I am a member here.
Roger Grove, a happy buck to
have Clyde back.
Dennis Churchill, I have a
happy dollar for my good friend Ed LeMay, in Lansing visiting from Dayton
Beach.
Jim Dalton, I have a happy
buck for making it 3 in a row and if Ray works real hard he may achieve that
some day.
Larry Pingle, I have a happy
buck for our speaker Nicole and another for the Tigers who are doing well
even without help from many of their players with multi-million dollar
salaries.
Clyde Flory, a happy buck for
a golf outing that got rained out but included 4 generations… my
mother-in-law, my wife and I, my son and grandkids. Three days later we had
a great get-together at our cottage… there were 26 of us.
Roger Grove, I have a happy
golf buck, for shooting my age 2 weeks ago. A 77.
Bob Holden, a happy buck for
5 visiting grandkids living on our lower level. Thank goodness for the
cleaning lady.
Program
Larry Pingle, pinch hitting for
Carla Johnston, introduce today’s speaker Nicole Noll-Williams. Nicole is
with the Capital City International Airport and discussed recent changes and
future plans for the airport such as receiving International Port of Entry
Status in January of 2008, the opening of a U.S. Customs Federal Inspection
Station in June of 2008 and a Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) covering the entire
Airport in the near future.
Pot Winner
Harry Kost won the POT today and
also a travel bag, compliments of Nicole Noll-Williams from the Capital City
Airport. No joker today.
