Meeting
Guests
Division 16 Lt. Governor, Liz
Luttrell-Wilson was a visitor today.
Announcements
Clarence Smith: I
attended the Kiwanis International Convention last week in Orlando. It was a
great experience, I learned a lot and I have lots of information relating to
programs we can take advantage of. I will have a written report soon but
today I do have a copy of the amendments that were passed at the convention
and I will pass those around.
Dennis Churchill:
I have sign-up sheet for greeter/invocator which I will pass around. It is
partially complete and I would like to get it completed today.
Bill Maher: I also
have a sign-up sheet, this one for program chairmen for the coming year. We
still have eight months open.
Today’s News
Nicholas Ferreri again brought us
the news of the day, as well a good 4th of July weekend weather
forecast, in his usual professional manner. Nicholas’ commentary included
the story of a balloon-a-tic in Oregon who is planning to attach 150 helium
filled balloons to his lawn chair and drift 300 miles into Idaho. This is
his way of celebrating July 4th, let’s hope he don’t come down
and go "boom."
Songs
A couple of appropriate songs for
the season, led by Jim McCartney with Clyde at the piano… "Take Me Out to
the Ballgame" and "She’s a Grand Old Flag."
Happy Bucks
Roger Grove, I’m happy
because Steve Ruthenberg, my speaker, is here today.
Harry Kost, a happy buck to
fill in for Dick Skinner who isn’t here today… did you know that Roe vs.
Wade goes back to George Washington when he was about to cross the Potomac
and was faced with a decision, "Roe or Wade."
Gary Brya, I have a happy
buck for my daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren who have been here
for a week and will be staying another week.
Liz Luttrell-Wilson, I have a
happy dollar for a great time at the Kiwanis Convention as Clarence did and
I have another dollar for my year as Lt Governor. They have asked me be
administrator for Circle K again next year and in the last two months we
have twelve new colleges that want to participate in our Circle K program.
Program
Program Chairman Roger Grove
introduced the first of his five July speakers, Steve Ruthenberg. Mr.
Ruthenberg is a PGA professional and is Director of Golf Instruction at
Michigan State University where he has been for 25 years. He also has
authored several books on golf. The many golfers in attendance paid close
attention as he demonstrated proper golf technique and some were seen
scurrying to the driving range when he finished.
Pot Winner
This week’s winner was Tom
Renton. Tom drew a 9 of spades.
