July 22,
2010 Meeting
Induction of new member
Prior to
the meeting today Clarence Smith and Bill Maher did an orientation with new
member, Anthony Snyder. Tony was introduced by his sponsor Trina Pulver and
was inducted by Club President Carla Johnston. Tony is an attorney, and his
firm is in Old Town. Welcome Tony Snyder!
Announcements
Carla
Johnston: There are sign-up sheets on the tables for program
chairmen for the coming year. Sign up for a month, still plenty to choose
from.
We have
added several new members in the past year so hopefully this means we can do
more projects. If you have ideas for projects from new members or old let us
hear about it. There are a lot of needs in the community and I would like to
see us involved in more hands on projects. Clarence has mentioned we are
weak at the elementary school level and if any of the new members are
interested in working with kids to help bring there grades up or starting a
K Club… give it some thought.
I will be
meeting with our new members and explain our committees so they can
determine the best areas for their involvement.
I had an
email form our Lt. Governor and she reminded me that we are not supposed to
have political speakers at our meetings.
Harry Kost:
We now have 20 people going to the dinner and show at Turkeyville on Friday
evening, July 30. Since we have 20 people they have given us a free ticket.
If someone else would like to go… buy a ticket and get the free one as well.
Buy one, get one free! The cost of the ticket, for the dinner and show, is
$35.
Yvonne
Groak: Today we are celebrating the July birthdays of Dick
Skinner, Bob Nelson, Darren Duso, Trina Pulver and Dan Barnes. Dick and
Trina were present, commented on their exciting lives and were serenaded
with a chorus of "Happy Birthday."
Songs
Jim
McCartney was the song leader this week and chose "When Kiwanis Calls" and
"Smile."
Happy
Bucks
Dick
Skinner had a happy buck to welcome our new member and an opportunity to
tell his joke.
Yvonne
Groak also had a happy buck to tell her joke.
Bryan
Crenshaw had a happy buck to be back after being in the hospital,
another for Dick Skinner who donated some material to Rina Risper, publisher
of the New Citizens Press and a third one to speak at the East Lansing
Kiwanis Club on how they can reactivate their K Club.
Roger
Grove, a happy buck for our new member Tony and another for the mystery
I became aware of. Check with Roger for details.
Chuck
Reifsnyder, a happy buck for our new member Tony Snyder even though he
only has a half a last name.
Clarence
Smith, also had a happy buck for Tony and for 3 days in Ft Myers where
it is as hot as night as it is during the day.
Jim
McCartney, I have a happy buck for a new program, expanding on our
dictionary program for 3rd graders. Our plan is to provide a
thesaurus to the 6th graders at Pattengill Middle School next
year. I met with the principal there yesterday and they are very
enthusiastic about this program. About 260 students will receive the books.
Harry Kost,
a happy buck for the golf match of the year last Friday, Bob and I
played Bill and Glenn and I will let Bill Maher tell you about it.
Bill
Maher, we failed to call a few penalty shots on our opponents and they
squeezed out an 11 to 9 win.
Jo Grubbe,
I have a happy buck for our new member, I know he will be a marvelous
addition to our Club.
Rob Haney,
my happy buck is also for our new member.
Tony
Snyder, a happy buck to thank you for all the happy bucks you have given
for me. I am very impressed with the welcome I have received. I have another
happy buck for Clarence and Bill who came in early today to bring me up to
speed on what Kiwanis does.
Program
Mike
Longnecker was Rob Haney’s speaker today. Mr. Longnecker is a former Jackson

special place where kids 7-17 who have suffered burns can meet, heal, grow
and support other burn survivors. Their website is at
