Announcements
Clarence Smith: Last
week I passed out shift assignment sheets so our members could sign up to
participate in the Lansing 150 LaborFest activities on Sept 5. Thank you to
those who signed up. These are only 3 hour shifts and I have the sheets on
the tables again today, if you haven’t signed up, please do. As I have
mentioned before this is an excellent opportunity to get our name before
several thousands of people at no expense to our Club. We had a very good
meeting yesterday with South Lansing, we know what activities will be in
each of the tents for the various age groups. We need everyone to
participate, sign up for the shift of your choice. Nothing will be
difficult, I am sure it will be a fun day.
Dick Skinner: You may
remember a few weeks ago Mathius Thelen was presented with the Fishback
Scholarship Award to continue his education. I received a very nice thank
you letter from him. He is currently with the St Johns parish in East
Lansing.
The Noon News with
Nicholas Ferreri
More stories you didn’t find in
the Lansing State Journal like the lady who had her wallet stolen at the New
York City Marathon 27 years ago. A worker found the wallet under 5 feet of
compost with only a $20 bill missing, her credit cards and ID cards were
still intact. The weather for the weekend (don’t blame the messenger) …
rainy.
Songs
Roger Grove did it again, this
week "Take Me Down to Kiwanis" and don’t forget to "Smile."
Happy Bucks
Bob Nelson, I have my annual
birthday check for the endowment fund… 21 + 21 + 21 (63).
I played Hazeltine last week and
felt like 63, but after seeing Tom Watson I felt like 21.
Gary Brya. I have 3 happy
bucks, one for my speaker, the second one for my guests Bonnie, Jennifer and
Mike. The 3rd one is for my wife Bonnie, we said our "I do’s" 43
years ago.
Congratulation and best wishes to
Bonnie and Gary!
Larry Pingel, a happy buck to
be here, I wasn’t here last week as we married off our third and last
daughter last Friday. Everything went well.
Roger Grove, a happy buck for
the lovely wives Bonnie and Phyllis who are with us today.
Harry Kost, a happy buck to
have my wife Phyllis here and a chance to tell my story of the gentleman who
was looking for polish sausage in a Home Depot.
Dick Skinner, today is my
birthday and I have a happy buck to remind everyone I made it one more year.
Clarence Smith, a happy buck
to see Phyllis again, another for our speaker and a 3rd for the
Eaton Rapids inter-club.
Eaton Rapids Kiwanian, a
happy buck to be here and another for the speaker, a survivor.
Another Eaton Rapids Kiwanian,
I also have a happy buck to be here and to see such a good crowd.
Bob Holden, a happy buck for
Carla who gave me 5 CD’s for my wife to play. She played them for the next 2
½ days, she is in a wheelchair and I can’t tell you how much she appreciated
them.
Jim McCartney, this happy
buck is for our speaker and another for the memories he brings of another
dedicated serviceman and Marine, WWII hero Jack Polack.
Program
Gary Brya, July program chairman,
introduced his speaker today Richard Thelen, one of the most interesting
speakers I have heard since I have been a Kiwanian. He related his story…
joining the navy at 17, being on the USS Indianapolis when it was torpedoed
by a Japanese submarine, sank in 12 minutes and then surviving five
harrowing days in the Pacific.
Pot Winner
Harry Kost was the winner of the
Pot today. He promptly gave it to his wife Phyllis and drew a 2 of hearts.
Support
you President, sign up for a shift at the Lansing 150 LaborFest on Sept. 5.
