2010 Meeting
Noon
News with Dan Barnes
Dan had
the latest news on the oil spills in the Gulf and in Michigan, word that
Zoologist Jack Hanna warded off a bear attach with pepper spray and the
promise of nice weather this weekend.
Announcements
The
Board will meet at Grumpy’s at noon next Tuesday Aug 3.
Carla
Johnston: We have the committee chairmen set for next year, if
you have a particular committee you would like to serve on let me know.
Harry Kost:
Lance Lynch is unable to go to the dinner and show at Turkeyville tomorrow
evening and has made them available to anyone that can use them. We decided
to award them to the lucky winner of a drawing at the end of the meeting.
Bill
Maher: We need to get our program chairs for next year filled.
Some people have already signed up but there are still several months left
open. I will pass this sign-up sheet around, sign up before you get assigned
a month.
I am also
working on the roster book, I have a sheet here with your current
information, if there are any changes make them in the right margin.
Songs
Roger
Grove was the song leader and we were glad to welcome Clyde back at the
piano.
The songs:
"Take Me Down to Kiwanis," "On Kiwanis" and "Smile."
Happy
Bucks
Roger
Grove, my happy buck is for my left knee which was scheduled to be
replaced on Aug 9, however it is working so well, after having the right one
replaced, we cancelled the surgery.
Jo Grubbe,
At a picnic last Thursday Roger Donaldson, who I had not seen for a while,
tapped me on the shoulder. Dan,s bear story reminded me of the article in
the paper today about a black bear that walked into a house, helped himself
to some food and left with a teddy bear.
Clyde
Flory, happy bucks to be back and for having the family together at the
cottage.
Rob Haney,
a happy buck for our speaker and for my daughter who is in the hospital
right now with my first grandchild. Another for our speaker today, Sandra
Kowalk who going to become a member.
Chuck
Reifsnyder, a happy buck for my granddaughter who took first place at
the gymnastics meet in Chicago last week. In two weeks she goes to the
national championship meet in Connecticut. Another dollar for my
granddaughter in Grand Haven who did a great job of playing the lead in a
musical at her school.
Larry
Pingel, a happy buck for Jim Dalton and our poker people, apparently we
made $3,700 at the last event and for Bob Holden and the golf committee
where we made over $6,000. Another happy buck for Chuck’s granddaughter, she
has been good for a lot of happy bucks, but if she wins an Olympic gold that
will have to be worth a lot more than a buck. And my last buck if for a nice
vacation salmon fishing last week… caught a lot of fish.
Bob
Nelson, a happy buck for a great trip to Napa Valley, San Francisco and
Yosemite. We camped one night in Yosemite, heard some noise one night but it
was not a bear but a squirrel.
Dick
Skinner, a happy buck for Chuck’s granddaughter’s and another for our
speaker Sandra Kowalk. At one time we bought a bus for the Boys and Girls
Club.
Bob
Holden, a happy buck for the successful golf outing which was a total
team effort by all who volunteered.
Tony
Snyder, a happy buck for the State Convention in Traverse City Aug 27-29
which I will be attending and I am hoping some of you will join me.
Carla
Johnston, a happy buck for Sandra our speaker who is becoming a member.
I am hoping we can get more involved with the Boys and Girls Club and do
some projects with them.
Program
Rob Haney
introduced his fifth and last speaker for July, Sandra Kowalk. Ms. Kowalk is
Director of Development for the Boys and Girls Club of Lansing where they
serve 260 boys and girls daily. There stated mission is… to inspire and
enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their
full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens.

donated by Lance Lynch.
