Announcements
Jim Kost: Copies
of the minutes from Tuesday’s board meeting are on the table. Feel free to
discuss the contents with any of the board members.
Lou Leitz: We
want to finish our inter-club round robin at the South Lansing Club on
Friday, Aug 15. They meet at the Delhi Café, 4625 Willoughby Road at 7:30am.
I am looking for volunteers.
Clarence Smith:
About a month ago I asked if anyone of our committee chairman did not want
to continue as chairman. Having heard from no one we will plan on the
current committee chairman to continue. There are sheets on the tables
giving the members an opportunity to request on which committee’s they would
like to serve. Remember you can serve on more than one committee. We need to
get this done so Bill can have the new roster books printed.
Jo Grubbe: I
just wanted to report we received a gumball check for $1,449.49. We now have
580 machines located throughout the city. In the past year 37 new machines
were placed and 33 were removed. Since our involvement in this program we
have received $263,116.
The Noon News with
Nicholas Ferreri
This date in 1782 George
Washington announced the Order of the Purple Heart to be awarded to men
wounded or killed in military action. The Brett Favre drama is over, he will
be joining the New York Jets. The current pleasant weather will continue
into the weekend and Nicholas also reported, from a reliable source, that a
preacher may have to learn to cuss a bit in order to get his lawn mower
started.
Songs
With no help, Jim McCartney led
the singing of "Your in Kiwanis Now" and "Smile."
Happy Bucks
Jim McCartney, a happy buck
for my granddaughter who is working on the Obama campaign and arranged for
my wife and I to get a front row seat and shake hands with Mr. Obama when he
visited Lansing earlier this week.
Clarence Smith, I have a
happy buck for the good meeting we had for Presidents and Secretaries last
Friday in Owasso and the 4 day Boy Scout meeting which I just attended in
Nashville.
Jeff Lorencen, my happy buck
is for a beautiful week with my family in northern Michigan.
Jo Grubbe, I am on the board
of Scheffel Toys and they are having an open house next Thursday, 10:00am to
2:00pm. They will be displaying the work they do, in their effort to attract
sponsors and donors. WILX-TV anchor David Andrews will be the speaker.
Harry Kost, a happy dollar
for the privilege of sitting at the head table between Bob Nelson and my son
Jim.
Jim Kost, I have one for my
Dad. If you knew how non-musical our family is and for him to be playing the
piano at 80…
Jim McCartney, another happy
buck for the International Jamboree up at Northwood. There will be 27
countries represented.
Program
Harry Kost introduced his speaker
for today our fellow member Bob Nelson. Bob is an attorney, author, teacher
and has received many honors and distinctions. In his work with public
utilities he has served on several commissions including several years on
the Michigan Public Service Commission. His remarks included issues with
proposed legislation now pending. Andy Such also contributed to the
discussion.

Today’s pot winner… Norm Miller.
He drew a 3 of spades.
