August 13, 2009 Meeting

Our Club, as well as the other Clubs in the area, were guests today of the R. J. Sheffel Memorial Toy Project at their open house.

Scheffel Toys provides wooden toys and games, hand crafted by volunteers, for children who are disadvantaged or in crisis.. Guests were provided lunch and given the opportunity to tour the facility, with the Scheffel volunteers, see the many different toys and how they are made.

Several donations to the project were made by the Kiwanis Clubs present including a $250 dollar gift from our Club, presented by Yvonne Groak.

Dennis Dudley, President of Scheffel Toys, greeted those assembled and introduced Ingham County Prosecuting Attorney Stuart Dunnings III.  Mr. Dunnings commented on the positive  effect the work of Sheffel Toys and Kiwanis Clubs has on young people in the area.

In his comments Clarence Smith reminded our members, who have not already volunteered to help with the Kiwanis Kids Tents at the LaborFest on Sept 5, to sign up for a shift.

Everyone’s help is needed to support this opportunity for Kiwanis exposure at no cost to our Club. Contact Clarence or Jo Grubbe.

Jim Dalton has provided the shift schedule for the Texas Hold 'Em games on Aug 31, Sept 1 and Sept 2 at Trippers in Frandor. Our Club will be the sponsoring charity on those days. Click schedule to view.

Before the event Jim will be sending an email to those involved with the rules we are to follow and the final shift schedule.

If you have questions call Jim at 324-1050.

Next week we will back at our regular meeting place , the Eagles.
