The Noon News with Nicholas Ferreri

Nicholas informed us today is August 21, the 234th day of the year and the 70th birthday of singer Kenny Rogers. On this day in 1959 President Eisenhower signed the proclamation making Hawaii our 50th state. In case you didn’t stay up to watch the final of the woman’s beach volley ball competition, you will be happy to know the gold was won by the US team. This amazing team has now won 108 consecutive matches. And this little known fact, the Amish who are primarily located in Pennsylvania, Ohio and Indiana have establishments in seven new states in their quest for affordable farm land. In the weather forecast there may be some help for parched lawns with possible storms tomorrow and an even better chance of rain on Saturday.

August Birthdays

Yvonne Groak, recognized the August birthday’s of Dennis Churchill on the 23rd and Terry Holzhausen also on the 23rd. Dennis commented both he and Terry would be celebrating the 25th anniversary of their 39th birthday. He also mentioned he has three children and ten grandchildren, one whom is at the University of Illinois in Chicago and one at Marymount College in New York City.

Songs

Thanks to Bill and Clyde for "Keep it Booming" and "Smile."

Happy Bucks

Rob West, a happy buck to be back and I don’t have enough happy bucks to thank all the people who helped my son through his major surgery. He is home and back on the way to good health.

Jo Grubbe, I am one of those who stayed up last night and watched the woman’s beach volley ball final and after that watched the US woman win their indoor volley ball match.

Chuck Reifsnyder, a happy buck for my granddaughter Jordyn who we found out will be part of the gymnastics program at the Breslin Center on Nov 9th along with Shawn Johnson and all the American Olympic gymnastic stars.

Jim Dalton, some of you may remember me… I have a happy buck to be back.

Greg Hagbom, a happy buck for the skimpy outfits the beach volley ball girls wear. I have been watching them for a couple of weeks and just noticed last night they keep score at those matches.

Lance Lynch, a happy buck for our speaker today, I think you will enjoy him very much.

Bob Nelson, a happy buck for a trip tomorrow to Kalamazoo for the Kiwanis State Convention with Nicholas and Clarence. I think we will represent you very well.

Jim Kost, I have one for Carla who filled in for me last week and another for our speaker Joe Ruth, my wife’s boss and she will be very happy I gave this buck.

Harry Kost, a happy buck for Lance, I asked him to get a speaker from Sparrow Hospital and he got a man from the top.

Dick Skinner, a happy buck for good news from Rob and Dennis. What do you do when you order black pen refills and get blue refills… you put them on the tables and let you guys help yourself.

Larry Pingel, a happy buck for Dick Skinner who told the rascals who robbed him of 67 cents they didn’t get the $500 he had hidden in his shoe.

Program

Lance Lynch, Chairman of the Sparrow Health System Board of Directors, introduced today’s speaker Joe Ruth. Mr. Ruth is a Senior Vice President of Sparrow Health Systems and discussed the escalating cost of health care as well as the pro’s and con’s of the McCain and Obama approach to the problem.

Pot Winner

Larry Pingel took the money today and drew a four of diamonds.
