Announcements
Carla
Johnston: I attended the Michigan District of Kiwanis Convention
in Grand Rapids last week with Bill Maher and Bob Nelson. I met just a great
group of people who had lots of ideas, some of which we might want to think
of trying in our Club. I will be bringing in more information.
Jim
Dalton: The Texas Hold 'em event at Trippers is next Monday,
Tuesday and Wednesday, Aug 31, Sept 1 and 2. Those signed up for shifts have
received either an email or a packet from me. The times on the
schedule
includes 1/2 hour before the shift begins, to allow for instruction time.
Those on the first shift will be responsible for instructing the second
shift. Those on the late shift will be responsible for completing the daily
reports. Anyone not scheduled to work is welcome to come and watch and
become familiar what goes on since we will be doing it again in November. If
you have not received your packet or have a question... call me at
324-1050.
Bob
Nelson: I was in Lake Odessa yesterday where we are starting a
new Club.
On October
2, 7:30am at Grumpy's Restaurant we are having the Lt Governor banner
exchange with the South Lansing Club. Everyone is welcome, we encourage you
to attend.
Dennis
Churchill: My wife Sally, who has worked on many of our Kiwanis
projects over the years, is a member of the Zonta Club. On Sept 15 they are
asking us to support the Boarshead Theatre which is currently having a
difficult time. I am passing around the Boarshead flyer, the play that night
is "Beau Jest."
Bill
Maher: I am again passing around a sheet with your current
roster book information. If your information is incorrect or has changed,
indicate the necessary changes.
Clarence
Smith: Our September Board meeting will be next Tuesday noon at
Grumpy's.
If you
haven't signed up for a shift at the Kiwanis 150 LaborFest Activities Tent
at Adado Waterfront Park on Saturday, Sept 5, do so today. We need to have
everyone involved. Shirts will be provided so please provide your shirt
size.
The Noon
News
I would
like to pass along information about a program I learned of at the
Convention last month in Nashville called The Dolly Parton Imagination
Library. Started by Dolly Parton in 1995 it provides a book a month to
children up to 5 years old. She has expanded the program around the country
with the help of clubs interested in helping children including Kiwanis
Clubs. It seems like a program we might be interested in and I will be
getting more information on it.
WKAR is in
need of volunteers to staff their phones during their upcoming TV drive. I
understand we did this when they had their TV auctions. If you are
interesting in helping let me know.
Songs
Rousing
renditions of "Grand Old Flag" and "Home on the Range" with Bill and Clyde.
Happy
Bucks
Harry Kost,
a happy buck for my guest Darren and I hope he comes back.
Dick
Skinner, a happy buck for our prospective members and I have a follow up
joke to the one Nicholas told.
Dennis
Murchison, a happy buck to be back after 3 weeks, I had a great time in
Tennessee visiting my mother.
Jim
Dalton, I have a happy buck for all those who signed up for our Texas
Hold 'em fund raiser and another for our speaker who comes from a great
organization, one that my mother has been involved with for longer than I
have been around.
Bob
Nelson, a happy buck for our guest Gerry, and for all the good ideas our
delegates are bringing back from the Grand Rapids and Nashville conventions.
Dennis
Churchill, a happy buck for a trip Sally and I are taking to the Grand
Hotel to spend a few days on the porch up there and another for our speaker
who I am going to introduce in a few minutes.
Carla
Johnston, a happy buck for our guests and for the convention last week
in Grand Rapids.
Terry
Holzhausen, a happy buck for Carla who was rubbing elbows with the
Kiwanis International President, Don Canaday at the Nashville convention. A
sad buck for our administration which is going after the CIA for
water-boarding terrorist prisoners.
Program
Dennis
Churchill introduced his speaker for today Rhonda Abood. Ms. Abood is Donor
Relations Ambassador for St. Vincent Catholic Charities., a non-profit
organization that provides services that include Adoption, Foster Care,
Children’s Home, Housing Services for the Homeless, Refugee Resettlement,
Immigration Law Clinic, Counseling Center and more. Interesting statistic...
the average age of a homeless person is a nine year old child.
Pot
Winner
Yvonne
Groak was today's lucky winner... but no joker.
