Songs
Roger Grove, without an assist
from Clyde, led the singing of "America the Beautiful" and "Smile."
The Noon News with
Nicholas Ferreri
Today is the 90th
birthday of reporter Paul Harvey. And now the news… Page one… 120 years ago
today George Eastman got the patent for his roll box film camera and claimed
the name Kodak. In Iowa City police didn’t have much trouble finding a man
accused of using a stolen credit card, he signed his own name when using it.
In the same city a drunken driver tried to bribe a police officer with a
sandwich. "Nothing new," said former Police Chief Chuck Reifsnyder,
"except in Lansing the offer was a donut."
Happy Bucks
Jo Grubbe, a happy buck for a
strong woman, Sarah Palin last night and another for Carla who is strong
every day.
Larry Pingel, a happy for our
speaker today, Mark Criss and another for Bill Maher who not only got a
speaker for me next week but will also be chairman of the week.
Roger Grove, I wanted to
mention I also like a strong man… and I have 10 happy bucks for having
completed my radiation therapy 2 weeks ago.
Glenn Mulder, I have a happy
buck for Gustav that missed us in the Keys and I hope that Ike is going to
miss us also.
Bob Nelson, a happy buck
since I will be bringing both my wife and sweetheart, my 93 year old mother,
to the joint meeting on Sept 25.
Program
Larry Pingel introduced Mark
Criss, Executive Director of the Lansing Rescue Mission. Mr. Criss commented
on the road that led him to his current position and some of the work the
Mission does such as currently housing 63 woman and children in their four
houses. After renovation of the old Maplewood School it will house 90
people. For more information on this charitable organization visit >>
