September 17, 2009 Meeting
Guests
We were
pleased to have as guests today an 8 member inter-club from the East Lansing
Kiwanis Club.
Announcements
Bill
Maher: Minutes from
the Sept Board meeting are on the tables for your review.
Hannah's
House
, which we support, is having their annual
"Deserts From Around the World" on Oct 3 at the Mt Hope Church on Creyts
Road. It is a great evening, all for a $10 donation.
Carla
Johnston
has scheduled a meeting next Tuesday noon at
Grumpy's Restaurant for all new Officers, Directors and Committee Chairs.
Bring your proposed budgets for 2009-2010.
The need
for another Board member will also be a topic of discussion... we are
looking for a volunteer.
Bob
Nelson: On Oct 2nd we will relinquish the Division 16 Lt
Governors banner to the South Lansing Club. Several members are planning to
be there, 7:30am at Grumpy's Restaurant. I would like as many of our members
as possible to attend.
Jim
Dalton: We had a successful Texas Hold 'em fundraiser at
Trippers a couple of weeks ago. I don't have the final numbers, but it will
be over $2,000. We are applying for our license for our next scheduled days,
Nov 23/24/25, the Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday before Thanksgiving.
We will have sign-up sheets as we get closer to the event.
Clarence
Smith: Nancy Pearsall, who was the Builders Club Advisor at
Michigan Leadership Academy, is no longer employed there however I received
an email from a gentleman by the name of Stephen who is going to take her
place. In the next couple of weeks Nicholas and I will be visiting the
Academy and talk with the principal and the new Builders Club Advisor. This
most likely will result in a new member and keep the Builders Club active.
The Noon
News
More
interesting news stories including the 11 year old boy who faked his
kidnapping to avoid taking home his bad grades. He did however receive high
marks for story telling.
And from
the man who knows, more nice weather in our future.
September Birthdays
Yvonne
Groak,
who never forgets a birthday, recognized the
September birthdays of Rod Conrad, Sue Devon and Norm Miller. After some
comments from each they were serenaded with... you guessed it, "Happy
Birthday."
Songs
"Take Me
Down to Kiwanis" and then, with Roger Grove's tenor voice reverberating
throughout the hall, "Sweet Adeline." Clyde was at the piano and we heard
the overwhelmed visitor's from East Lansing going "Oh My."
Happy
Bucks
Bob
Nelson, a happy buck for our friends from East Lansing, they supported
me well in my year as Lt Governor and a second buck for Nicholas and the
great weather we have been having.
Ray
Easton, a happy buck for a great week at the lake last week and the
weather couldn't have been better.
Jim
McCartney, a happy buck remembering when my son told the teacher he
couldn't bring in his homework because the dog had wet on it. Another for
the J Strolle Spartan lined jacket I am wearing, if you want one like it see
Bob Holden.
Roger
Grove, a happy buck for our friends from East Lansing. We are always
well received when we visit them and we are glad to have them here.
Bill
Maher, a happy buck for anyone that saw the cat Roger stepped on when we
sang "Sweet Adeline."
Clarence
Smith, a happy buck for our friends from East Lansing and also one for
the outstanding job our Lt Governor, Bob Nelson, has done this past year.
Dick Skinner, a happy buck for a weekend visit with my sister in
Cincinnati and when visiting their zoo I discovered BoNoBo the monkey had
98% human DNA.
Clyde
Flory, a happy buck for Bob for a fine year as Lt Governor, and on an
item related to our daughter-in-law Beth who I told you last week is in the
hospital for leukemia. There is website called "The Caring Bridge." which
allows someone in difficult times to keep loved ones informed. In return,
family and friends give patient and caregiver support through guestbook
messages. It is really remarkable, she has already had over 1,000 hits.
You may
recall Beth and my son Tim came from Grand Rapids and helped out at our Las
Vegas nights several times and have a fondness for our Club.
