round of golf. The odds of that happening is 67,000,000 to one. Nicholas
also noted the number to call to block telemarketers calls on your cell
phone is 1-888-382-1222.
The
weather forecast not quite as good this weekend with some possible showers
around.
Announcements
Carla
Johnston: At next
weeks meeting we will have the induction of the new Officers
and Directors.
I
again have the sign-up sheet
for monthly program chairmen. Several months are still open. Please help us
out.
At the request of the nominating
committee, Roger Conrad and Norm Miller have agreed to serve on the
Board of Directors to fill openings for the remaining year in the 2008-2010
term. This requires a vote of the membership.
Bob
Nelson: I move we wave the bylaw requirements and have a
unanimous ballot cast for the election of Roger Conrad and Norm Miller to
fill the open Board of Director positions.
Motion
passed.
Dennis
Churchill: As part of their outreach program for seniors the 1st
Presbyterian Church has sponsored a bingo night for more than 30 years. Rod
Conrad has worked on this program for more than twenty years and on behalf
of the Spiritual Aims Committee and the Club I would like to present him
this check for $250 for this worthwhile activity.
Rod
commented it is a fun night for the seniors and the prizes awarded are
personal items the seniors are always in need of. There is a grand prize
each night, something significant like a coffee maker, and this generous
gift will be used to provide those prizes.
Bill
Maher: I have printouts of the committee assignments for the
next year. Pick one up on the way out and note the committee assignments you
requested and maybe some you didn't request. The
committee assignments
are also available on our website.
Songs
Without
any piano accompaniment this week Bill Maher led the singing of "Take Me
Down to Kiwanis" and "Smile."
Happy
Bucks
Gary Brya,
I have a happy buck for a trip this afternoon to visit my son,
daughter-in-law and 2 grandchildren in Charlevoix.
Lee
Dalrymple, I and the Golden K members are very happy to visit your Club
today and we thought we had a free lunch until we got to the cookies and
then your treasurer caught up with us.
Carla
Johnston, I have a happy buck for our speaker today and a second happy
buck for my 3 year old grandson. He said he was going to be a transformer
for Halloween this year and wanted to know what I was going to be. When I
told him, just me, he said "Oh, you are going to be an old woman."
Greg
Hagbom, I have a happy buck because Gail and I are going to celebrate
our 30th anniversary. Congratulations Gail and Greg.
John Roy
Castillo, I have a buck because I don't have a joke for you today.
Bob
Holden, I have a happy buck for Greg who switched months and we now have
someone for November program chairman.
Sue Devon,
I have a happy buck because I remembered today is my anniversary.
Program
Dick
Skinner is today's program chairman and he introduced today's speaker Barry
Meyer. Mr. Meyer is a retired Colonel and is currently Senior Homeland
Security Planner for the Michigan Department of Military and Veteran
Affairs. He also has a security consulting business. He spoke today of the
Homeland Security structure in Michigan and of some of our vulnerable areas
such as pipelines, water supply, electric grid, etc.
Pot
Winner
Mr. Gil
Hill was the lucky winner today and drew a 4 of diamonds.
