As Bob mentioned I have been in
contact with the Sesquicentennial Commission and believe there will be
several opportunities for us there.
Songs
With the financial markets being
in turmoil Jim McCartney suggested singing "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" but
since that is not in our song book he led the singing of "We of Kiwanis" and
our theme song "Smile" with a big assist from Clyde Flory at the piano.
Happy Bucks
Dennis Churchill, a happy
buck for my son-in-law who my wife and I visited last night and got a couple
of humorous ideas for epitaphs.
Chuck Reifsnyder, a happy
buck for my gymnast granddaughter again. Last week in Indianapolis she was
selected as "gymnast of the year" in that district. This week she is in
Houston training and she called yesterday saying she was selected to go to
Belgium in November with the Olympic Gymnastics Team.
John Roy Castillo, a happy
buck to have lunch with Clyde today and I explained to him if he had
purchased $1000 worth of beer a year ago the return on the recycled cans
would have been worth more than an investment in Delta, Lehman Bros or AIG.
Jim Kost, I have 3 happy
bucks, one for the Past Presidents dinner last night, one for our speaker
today Pat Gillespie and a third for my dad who gets back from California
next Wednesday at midnight and will be here on Thursday.
Clyde Flory, happy bucks for
the good job Jim did for the past year, and for a piano tuner who is going
to tune our old piano at a nominal fee and for the next two weeks
sightseeing from a time-share in Las Vegas.
Carla Johnston, a happy buck
to have Dean Pope here today, I had not seen him in 20 years.
Nicholas Ferreri, a happy
buck for lunch with some fellow Kiwanians from Mississippi yesterday who
were traveling through Lansing.
Jo Grubbe, a happy buck for
Clarence who has a new vision for our Club in the coming year.
Yvonne Groak, a happy buck
for the good test reports from my doctor this week.
Jim McCartney, a happy buck
for my birthday coming up, I won’t be here but a check will be in the mail.
Bob Nelson, I have happy
bucks for Dean and Clarence. I installed both of them and they are both off
to a great start.
