October 29, 2009 Meeting

Guests

Abby and Chris, buddies from his days at Ball State University, were guests of Nicholas Ferreri today.

The Noon News

Nicholas back this week with a couple of Halloween stories, a forecast of rain over the weekend and a story of 3 high-tech ladies in a sauna. See Nicholas for details.

Announcements

Carla Johnston: The Board of Directors will meet next, Tuesday Nov 3, at noon at Grumpy's.

Bob Nelson: I want to thank the Endowment Fund for funding the Dictionary Project as well as the Turkey Project this year. I have a list of dictionary school assignments if you have forgotten yours. Lou Leitz and I delivered dictionaries to Reo school this week and had a great time with the kids there.

We are planning to assemble Thanksgiving baskets on Monday morning, Nov 23, probably starting about 8:00am. We will talk about that when the Youth Services Committee meets here next Thursday, Nov 5, at 11:30am.

Dick Skinner: I had a call from Sue Perry, Miller's daughter, advising me Miller has returned from his summer home in Pennsylvania. Miller is not living at home but at an assisted living facility at 3830 Okemos Road. So HI Miller and welcome back.

Jim Dalton: On each of the tables you will find sign-up sheets for our Texas Hold 'em event at Tripper's on Nov 23/24/25. You will notice we are scheduling 3 shifts each day instead of 2 so the shifts will are shorter. We will have 2 people per shift and 1 of those will be a chairperson. Chairperson's are Gary Brya, Roger Donaldson, Ray Easton, Jo Grubbe, Bob Holden, Jeff Lorencen, Bill Maher and Bob Nelson. If you participated in this event in Sept you know it is not difficult. Sign up, if you have questions give me a call.

Bill Maher: Committee chairman I need your reports next week so I can get my report in. Let me know the member names and time each spent on projects or meetings.

Clarence Smith: The Publicity Committee will meet here next Thursday Nov 5 at 11:30am. We will continue to meet at the same time as the Youth Services Committee.

Nicholas Ferreri: I will be going to the Eastern High School Key Club meeting next Wednesday to award our first Key Clubber of the Month. If anyone else would like to join me there, it will be in room 337 at 2:35pm.

Awards

President Carla Johnston and Secretary Bill Maher presented perfect attendance awards to 25 members for perfect attendance ranging from 1 year for Nicholas Ferreri to 54 years for Harold Krauss.

Bob Nelson presented dinner for two certificates, courtesy Emil's Restaurant, to Harry Kost and Dick Skinner for sponsoring 2 new members.

Bob Nelson also presented certificates from the Kiwanis International President, signed by Gen. James Doolittle and Gen. William Westmoreland, to Harry Kost and Charles Reifsnyder for their service to the country during the period 1941 to 1945.

Songs

Roger Grove, this week with Clyde back at the piano, leading the singing of "Take Me Down to Kiwanis" and "We're Here for Fun."

Happy Bucks

Bob Nelson, a happy buck for Lou Leitz who, bad hip and all, was my partner delivering dictionaries and putting a smile on the kids faces at Reo school.

Jeff Lorencen, I haven't been here in a few weeks and have a happy buck to be back.

Roger Grove, I have a happy buck for divine intervention after passing a 2 hour continuing education test yesterday.

Larry Pingel, a happy buck for my wife who had my granddaughter's "lost" bracelet.

Clyde Flory, a happy buck for the excellent job Clarence did as our President this past year. A second happy buck for the article in the Lansing Business Monthly about an author in our midst, Bob Nelson. Bob won an award for authoring a short story in a Michigan Bar competition. And this is not the first time.

Bill Maher, a happy buck for my son John and his wife Lea who are expecting in May.

Harry Kost, a happy buck for a family birthday party in South Haven for my wife Phyllis. Another happy buck... I can't remember what it was for... oh yes, my last colonoscopy which I had yesterday.

Nicholas Ferreri, I have a happy buck for my guests today.

Bob Holden, a happy buck to have Clyde back, we sing a lot better when he is here.

Carla Johnston, a happy buck for the news from my youngest daughter that I am going to be grandma for the second time.

Rick Librizzi, I have a buck to change my luck. Seems like a conspiracy going on, the same people always win the pot.

Program

A discussion today regarding the results of the Club questionnaire completed recently and suggestions for Club meetings, activities and projects.

Larry Pingel won today's pot and drew a 3 of spades.
