November 5, 2009 Meeting

Guests

Charlene Shumaker and 4 members from the Eaton Rapids Club were inter-club guests today.

The Noon News

You can only get it here. Nicholas had an update on the Minnesota man who was arrested for driving his motorized La-Z-Boy chair while intoxicated. Turns out it was not a La-Z-Boy and is now up for auction as the DWI chair. The weather... colder, then warmer, or was it the other way around. Better check with Nicholas on channel 10.

 Announcements

Carla Johnston: We have on the tables a program interest survey to find what programs you are interested in. Please fill it out, this will be helpful information for the monthly program chairs. We still need volunteers to fill several months to complete the schedule for next year.

Lance Lynch: For a number of years we have tried to help the Salvation Army out during the holiday season. I would like us to continue doing that and I will match Club donations up to $500 again this year. I can do that again because I know I am not going to the Rose Bowl this year. We will have the kettle out, I hope you can help.

Bob Nelson: Several members have donated money to cover the Thanksgiving basket expense. We would appreciate help from all of you.

Alex Norton will be helping us out with the Thanksgiving baskets by picking up the turkeys and trimmings at the L&L Food Center with the Salvation Army truck on Friday, Nov 20 at 8:30am and taking them to Otto School. On the tables are signup sheets. We need 2-3 people to help with the truck on Friday and 3 people at 7:30am on Monday to help Terry Holzhausen load his truck at Otto School. We need 6 people at Hildebrandt at 8:00am and 6 people at LaRoy Froh at 10:am on Monday to assemble baskets. Sign up please.

Bob Nelson: Presented a certificate from the Kiwanis International President, signed by Gen. James Doolittle and Gen. William Westmoreland, to Harold Krauss for his service to our country during the period 1941 to 1945.

Clarence Smith: When delivering dictionaries take your camera with you, take a few pictures. I would like to use them to get us some publicity for our Club and this project.

Nicholas Ferreri: Jim McCartney joined me at the Eastern Key Club meeting yesterday and we awarded the first Key Club Member of the Month. The kids were excited about it and I hope more of you can join us there next month.

Songs

No piano did not deter Roger Grove from leading the singing of "Hail Hail the Gangs All Here" and "On Kiwanis."

Happy Bucks

Larry Pingel, I have a happy buck for a comment. I am wondering how many of you know there is a 'no turn on red' sign at the corner of Grand River and MLK. Last week the car ahead of me, driven by a former police chief, turned right on red.

Ray Easton, I have a happy buck for Granger and another for the BWL for our partnership in providing renewable power.

Bob Nelson, I have a happy buck for Alex and Terry who are helping us with our Thanksgiving project. We need lots of help, I hope you all sign up.

Jim McCartney, I have a happy buck for the fun Bob Holden and I had delivering dictionaries at Cumberland School. A librarian was already utilizing a dictionary as we were leaving. Another buck to be with Nicholas yesterday at Eastern High School, there were 24 kids at the Key Club meeting. Joel their supervisor does a wonderful job.

Ev Beemer, a happy buck because I will be heading to Florida next week and a unhappy buck because I won't see you guys for 6 months.

Roger Grove, a happy buck for divine intervention... I just passed all my continuing education exams.

Program

Greg Hagbom, program chairman for November introduced his first speaker Charlene Shumaker. Charlene is a member of the Eaton Rapids Kiwanis Club. She is an avid photographer and founder of the Eaton Rapids Camera Club. She discussed the various types of camera's and showed album's of pictures she and Club members have taken.

Pot Winner

The winner today was Terry Holzhausen. Terry drew a 9 if spades.

Some updated information on Miller Perry. I'm sure he would like to hear from his fellow Kiwanians.
