January 29, 2009 Meeting

 Announcements

Bill Maher: The sign-up sheets are again on the tables for the Rummage Sale on Saturday, March 7, at the Faith United Methodist Church, 4601 S Waverly Rd.  Indicate if you can help with registration, set-up or provide refreshments.  The sale starts at 9:00am and items can be brought to the church on Thursday and Friday of that week at 11:00am.

Larry Pingel: As mentioned previously, this year we have agreed to provide 4 members to serve lunch at the City Rescue Mission from 12 noon – 1:00pm on the third Monday of each month.  Sign-up sheets are on the tables… February has been filled.

Clarence Smith: You probably received an email from me today.  A couple were returned as undeliverable but I think I have those corrected.  If you did not get my email please contact me with your email address, so I have a complete list.  The thought is this will give me an opportunity to quickly send information that is relevant to everyone in the Club. Please feel free to reply with your comments or questions. It also gives the members a chance to consider the information provided and comment on it at the next meeting.

Nicholas and the Noon News

News you can’t get anywhere else such as the near apprehension of the culprit who occasionally puts a single onion ring in french fries orders at Burger King Restaurants.

The weather, a little more snow the next couple of days but warming up into the mid 30’s on Sunday. Perfect for watching the Super Bowl… in front of your tv.

Songs

Secretary Bill Maher used his musical talent today leading the singing of “Keep it Booming” “Daisy Bell” and “Smile” with a major assist from Clyde Flory at the piano.

Happy Bucks

Ray Easton, I have 2 happy bucks for attending 2 weeks in a row and also for the dictionary project which Yvonne and I are going to finish up today.

Greg Hagbom, a happy buck for Norm Miller who last Friday drove me to pick up the car I had purchased before we delivered Meals on Wheels.

Jim Kost, a happy buck for my new granddaughter Kennedy, who was born in Chicago on January 20th, inauguration day. Congratulation Gramps!

Roger Conrad, a happy buck for Tuesday when my wife and I celebrated our 36th anniversary.

Program

Attorney Rick Librizzi program chairman for January, continuing his effort to show women  can successful in the legal profession, introduced his speaker for the day Judge Rosemarie Aquilina.  Judge Aquilina was recently elected to the Ingham County Circuit Court.

She previously served as a judge on the 55th District Court and today discussed at length the Sobriety Court program.  This has been a very successful program and the rate of repeat offenders is very low for individuals completing the program.

Pot Winner

Jeff Lorencen was today’s winner, he drew a jack.  The big Pot is getting bigger..
