 Announcements

Clarence Smith: On Mar 21st we have an International and Canada Goodwill Banquet in Port Huron.  If you are interested in going contact Bill Maher for details.

On the tables are copies of the minutes from our March 3rd Board meeting for your review.

A sign-up sheet is being circulated for volunteers for the April 4th “Kids Against Hunger” when Kiwanis Clubs in Mid-Michigan will be assembling 50,000 meals for needy families.   There is also a sign-up sheet giving you an opportunity to support this event with a cash donation.  Those commitments are due by April 4.

The Rummage Sale to support “Kids Against Hunger” is this Saturday, Mar 7, at the Faith United Methodist Church, 4301 S Waverly Road.  The sale starts at 9:00am and items can be brought to the church today and tomorrow from 11:00am to 2:00pm and also 5:00pm to 6:00pm.

Larry Pingel: The members who have signed up to serve meals at the City Rescue Mission at 12 noon on Mar 16 are: Dennis Churchill, Jo Grubbe, Greg Hagbom, Bill and Jan Maher.

The schedule for April is full but you can sign up for May or June.

Carla Johnston: I would like the Youth Services Committee to meet here next Thursday at 11:15am.  We have some scholarship applications to consider from our Key Club members.

The Noon News with Nicholas Ferreri

As usual a menu of real stories, no fakes, such as the news out of Iowa where the legislature has proposed changing the name of the Depart of Elder Affairs to the Department of Aging… DOA.  Another real story, temperatures near 60 tomorrow.

New Member Induction

Sue Devon became a member of our Club today.  The induction ceremony was performed by President Clarence Smith, Past President Larry Pingel and by her Sponsor and Division 16 Lt Governor, Bob Nelson.  Sue is the Chief Financial Officer for the Board of Water and Light. We are pleased Sue chose to join our Club and we extend a warm welcome to our newest Kiwanian.

Songs

Bill Maher, again all by himself and his considerable musical talent, led the singing of “Keep it Booming” and “Smile.”

Carla Johnston, my happy buck is also for our new member Sue.

Tom Renton, I have an extra buck and a happy one because I haven’t given one for a while.

Vincent Parris, as a guest I would like to give a couple of happy bucks for the work Kiwanians do for the children in the Lansing area.

Program

Jeff Lorencen is program chairman for March and introduced his speakers for today, Gene Carolan, Director of Junior Achievement and Vincent Parris, Program Manager for Junior Achievement.  This organization, started early in the 20th century, teaches young people business practices and financial responsibility.

Pot Winner

The winner of the Pot for the second week in a row… Chuck Reifsnyder.  He still couldn’t find the joker, drew a 10 of clubs.   Now only seven cards left in the deck.
