The President Elect of the East Lansing Kiwanis Club was visiting today. 

We were also glad to see back Miller Perry who has been unable to attend our winter meetings.  With Miller was his daughter Susie (I think she is an honorary member in good standing.)

Bill Maher’s wife Jan was also a guest today.

We were happy to welcome them all.

 Announcements

Bob Nelson:  This Saturday Kids Against Hunger will be assembling food packages.

Those who signed up to help should be there at 9, 10 or 11 depending what shift you signed up for.  The location is The Parks and Recreation Center at 16101 Brook Rd, Lansing. Off Old 27 go east 1/10 mile on State Rd and then right on Brook Road. Thanks to those who have contributed money. Including the garage sale this Club contributed over $3,000 to this effort.

Harry Kost:  I have a sign-up sheet making the rounds for the District Golf Outing on June 1^st at the Red Hawk Golf Club in East Tawas.  My son has played there and says it is an outstanding course.  I also have a brochure here which I will pass around with all the details. I hope we can get 3 or 4 foursome’s as we have in past years.

Dick Skinner: Sign up today for the Prayer Breakfast next Thursday morning so we can get a count for food preparation  I would like members to be here by 7:00am to greet visitors.  Bring your friends, the per person cost is $8.  Currently we have 23 visitors coming from area Kiwanis Clubs.

The Noon News with Nicholas Ferreri

As usual Nicholas had some interesting and unusual news stories and the threat of precipitation of some kind for the next couple of days.

Songs

With Bob Nelson leading and Clyde Flory at the piano we sang “We’re Here for Fun” and the “MSU Fight Song.”  Great to have Clyde back and it sounded like we need to work on the words of the MSU Fight Song before the weekend.

Happy Bucks

Dennis Churchill, I have a happy buck for the Spartans who are a 4 point underdog and that is by how much they are going to beat Connecticut.  Another for Miller’s beautiful Susie, I hope she comes often.

Miller Perry, I have 5 happy bucks to be back at the Club and to have my daughter Susie here with me.

Ray Easton, a couple of happy bucks, one to let you know I am Ray and a member here and the other for Miller and Susie, glad to see you here.

Jo Grubbe, a happy buck to have Miller back and having Susie here as well.

Larry Pingel, I have 2 happy bucks, one for each of the games I saw the Spartans win in Indianapolis last weekend.

Rick Librizzi, I have a buck that says State is going to go all the way and win their next two games.  I will give 5 unhappy bucks if they don’t.

Clyde Flory, a happy buck to be back and not have to worry about getting sunburned on the beach and another happy buck for the Spartans.

Harry Kost, here is a green and white happy buck and if they go all the way I am going to bring a song sheet with all the words to the MSU fight song.

Tom Renton, I have a happy buck for our speaker Sabino Texido, a second buck for MSU and the third because I am leaving tomorrow morning to enjoy some of that 80 degree weather.

Program

April program chairman, Tom Renton, introduced his speaker for the day, Sabino Texido.  Sabino was born in Cuba and after having a restaurant in Lansing for several years became a senior wine advisor with Wines for Humanity, an organization which sponsors wine tasting events with the proceeds going to provide assistance to the homeless.  She gave us a taste of both white and red wines from Italy and imparted some interesting information about wines.

Pot Winner

The winner today, Dennis Churchill.  Dennis drew the Ace of Hearts.

 

Our annual Prayer Breakfast will be in our meeting room at Cascarelli’s next Thursday morning at 7:15.  The committee would like members to arrive by 7:00 to greet guests. Bring your friends, the cost is $8 per person. Currently we have 23 people coming from other Clubs, we hope all our members make an effort to be here. Call Dick Skinner, home 322-0049, work 322-0322 and let him know you are coming.
