Bill Maher:  Bob Nelson has advised us the Michigan District of Kiwanis Board voted unanimously to accept Lansing's bid to host the 2010 golf outing. Thanks to Bob Holden for submitting the application.

On a related note, the Michigan Kiwanis Foundation is hosting a golf outing on Wed, Aug. 5 at Concord Hills (near Hillsdale). The $50 per golfer fee can go to our Foundation contribution.

Scholarship Award

Dennis Churchill, co-chair of the Human and Spiritual Values Committee and Richard Skinner presented the $1,000 Julius Fishback Scholarship Award to Deacon Mathias Thelen.

Mr. Thelen is a graduate of Fowler High School and attended Grand Valley State University for two years, studying engineering and Mathematics Education. He then transferred to St. John Vianney Seminary in St. Paul, Minnesota to study philosophy. Since the fall of 2006 he has been studying theology at Sacred Heart Seminary in Detroit. He is currently associated with MSU at the St John Student Parish and will be ordained into the priesthood in June of 2010.

The Noon News with Nicholas Ferreri

Nicholas never runs out of interesting stories in the news, this week the story of a 4 year old who decided to give his puppy a bath by flushing him down the toilet.  Miraculously he was rescued from the sewer.  Nicholas also gave us the inside on the weather, strong storms tonight and also on Friday.

Songs

Roger Grove, without the support of Clyde at the piano, led the singing of “We’re Here for Fun” and “Smile.”

Happy Bucks

Jim Dalton, although surpassing the attendance record of Harold Krauss is not likely my happy buck is for my current attendance streak of 2 weeks in a row.

But we are really happy you came Jim… your’s is the only happy buck this week.

Program

Carla Johnston’s speaker for this week was Josh Hovey.  Josh is an MSU graduate and is currently with The Rossman Group, a Lansing public relations firm.  He spoke today on behalf of the Young Leaders Society, an organization sponsored by Capital Area United Way to promote the engagement of young people in the community through education, volunteering and philanthropy.

Meeting Location

After holding our meetings in several locations in the past weeks Survey sheets were provided to the members to indicate their preference for a permanent meeting location.

The survey indicated the location with the most member support was the Eagles Club.

The Eagles Club was approved by voice vote with no change in the $9.00 meal charge.

Pot Winner

An embarrassed (well a little bit) Norm Miller won the Pot for the second week in a row. He drew a 6 of hearts.

We will meet next week at the Eagles Lodge, 4700 N. Grand River (just west of the airport)

Park in the front lot and use the front entrance. See you there!
