July 2, 2009 Meeting
Announcements
Bill Maher: The Holt Kiwanis Club is
celebrating their 60th anniversary on July 13th at their
regular meeting location, Charlar
Place, 4230
Charlar Dr, Holt. Charlar Dr is off Cedar Street, ¾ mile south of Holt Road. The time
is 6:30pm and the cost is $10.00 (not $8 as previously indicated) per person.
Contact Bill Maher if you plan to attend.
I have
received free tickets for the group of motivational speakers who are to appear
at the Breslin Center on Tuesday evening, July 14. Let me know if you want one.
Bob Nelson: In addition to the Holt 60th
anniversary on Monday evening, July 13, there is an inter-club at East Lansing at noon on
that day. We need a few members for that.
There is
a new Club in our division, Maple
Valley, near Potterville. We won’t be having an inter-club with them
until next year however.
I
attended the International Convention in Nashville
last week along with Carla, Bill and Nicholas.
A lot was accomplished with several good forum’s
and we will be having more information for you soon. The voting was done electronically for the
first time this year.
Carla
Johnston: I have
a sheet going around listing the committees and their chairmen last year. If you would like to continue as a committee
chairman, indicate that, if not indicate that also. If you are not currently a committee chairman
and you would like to be one, put your name on this sheet with the committee of
your choice.
Clarence
Smith: I would
assume there will be a sign-up sheet soon for program chairman, so don’t be
bashful and sign up for that. Remember
if the month has 5 Thursdays you only need to provide a speaker for 4 of the
weeks. On the fifth week we will have a
forum type meeting where we discuss ideas and programs.
The Board
of Directors will meet next Tuesday, July 7th, at noon at Grumpy’s
On July
15 we will be having another planning meeting, 4:00pm at Grumpy’s Restaurant,
for our youth activity tent at the Lansing 150 LaborFest on Sept 5. That date
is not that far away. We initiated this
thing and we need more members to step up and help. It is not the kind of event
where there are any physical or age restrictions so we need everyone to step up
and help. Come to this meeting and get
involved, don’t leave us high and dry!
Songs
Bill Maher, without the aid of
piano accompaniment, was the choral director today singing “Take Me Down to
Kiwanis” and of course “Smile.”
Happy Bucks
Jeff Lorencen, I have a happy buck for our speaker and looking
forward to find out what is `
Carla Johnston, I have a happy buck for our speaker as well. I am a true Biggby addict… for Christmas my
daughter gave me a Biggby cup and a $50 Biggby gift certificate.
Harry Kost, a happy buck for the negative test results from a
spot on my ear which was discovered earlier this week by my barber.
Terry Holzhausen, a happy buck since in a few days we are taking the bike and heading west
for 2 or 3 weeks.
Clarence Smith, a happy buck for our speaker and her partner Bob Fish who I met a few
years back at a seminar at MSU.
Gary Brya, a happy buck for the next 4 days of golf at the Treetops Resort.
Bob Nelson, a happy buck for a great time in Nashville with
Carla, Bill and Nicholas and for my visit earlier in the week to Charleston, SC
where everyone was looking for the Governor but he was in Argentina.
Program
Gary Brya introduced his first of
four July speakers, Mary Roszel. Mary is
one of the original founders of Biggby Coffee and discussed how this very
successful business originated and is now franchised with over 100 stores in
several states.
Pot Winner
Mr. Richard Skinner
was today’s POT winner. His draw… the 10 of hearts.
Have a pleasant and safe Independence Day weekend.
