Dick Skinner's guest today was Robert Roach.  Mr. Roach will be our speaker on Aug 20.

Dennis Murchison, who will be in Lansing for the next few months, was also visiting us again today.  Dennis is involved with the Kiwanis Key Leadership Program. He mentioned he is not only here for the good food but also plans to work with our Club and our youth projects while in Lansing.

 Announcements

Dennis Churchill: I am the Program Chairman for the month of August.  Next week we will have Rep Barbara Byrum, and on Aug 13 we will be going on a field trip to the Scheffel Memorial Toy Project, 5937 S MLK, for our luncheon meeting.  On Aug 20 Robert Roach will be speaking on Green Energy Funding and on Aug 27 Rhonda Abood from St Vincent Catholic Charities will be our speaker.

Larry Pingel: On Aug 13 we will be bringing the letters for the membership drive.

1. Those who have signed up to participate will be paired up in teams of two.

2. Each team will be given ten letters, which will be in envelopes and addressed to a local business.

3. Based on a convenient time for the team, they will mail their letters and then plan to make follow-up visits to those businesses within 10 days.

We hope to have all the visits completed and results back to us in approximately a month.

Songs

Roger Grove was in good voice again leading the singing today of "On Kiwanis" and "America the Beautiful."

Carla mentioned we need to find a home for our piano which is now stored at her place of business.  Can anyone help?

Happy Bucks

Jim McCartney, a happy buck for an understanding judge who granted citizenship to a mother whose son was lost on the USS Indianapolis.

Gary Brya, I have a happy buck for my daughter and two grandkids who left this morning after  visiting us the for 10 days.

Yvonne Groak, I have a happy dollar too because my family, from all over, have been at my house... and they left.

Program - Club Business Meeting

Bill Maher: A few items... Scheffel Toys is having a Golf Outing on Aug 11 at the Hawk Hollow Putting Course.  $100 per foursome.

Liz Littrell-Wilson is have a Hawaiian summer party at her house on Saturday, Aug 8.

Anyone interested in these events let me know and I will give you the details.

We received a check from our gum ball affiliate for $1,512.13.  That is for the first six months of the year.

On Saturday Carla and I will be going to Owasso for a Club Leadership Conference.

At the Convention we got information on a program to work with schools to assist kids to improve their grades.  We were also encouraged to work with the local Boys and Girls Clubs which we are planning to do.

Carla has plans to do an analysis of our projects to see if they are effective or if they should be replaced with some new ones.

Bob Nelson: I attended the new Maple Valley Club this morning which includes the area of Vermontville, Nashville and Hastings.  They have 24 members and are a very young Club.  They are in our division and we will want to include them in our inter-club schedule next year. Kiwanis International is becoming more flexible in the types of Club they allow.

Carla Johnston: I have created a page on Facebook for our Club.  I haven't put anything on it yet but I have already received responses from Clubs from around the world.

Jo Grubbe: We had a Lansing 150 meeting last night with the South Lansing and Delta Clubs.  As Clarence has mentioned our tent will be the 9-12 age group. The craft and game activities have been planned, we need everyone to sign up for one of the shifts on Sept 5th.
