 Announcements

Clarence Smith: Nancy Pearsall, who was an Endowment Fund trustee, has left our Club and we need to replace her.  Larry Pingel volunteered to fill this opening… case closed.

Minutes from Tuesday’s Board meeting are on the table’s for your review.

Bob Holden has a sign-up sheet for monthly program chair for next year, 2009-2010.  Don’t be shy, pick your month.

Also on the tables are sign-up sheets for our Kiwanis tent at the Lansing LaborFest on Sept 5. These are 3 hour shifts, if you don’t want to volunteer for 3 hours, sign up with a buddy and split the shift.  But we do need everyone to pitch in and help on this project.

The Michigan District Convention is coming up on Aug 20-23 in Grand Rapids.  Bill Maher, Carla Johnston and Bob Nelson will be there.  They will be voting on an amendment to article 18 to reduce the number of issues of The Builder from 6 to 4. The consensus of our members is to approve this amendment so our delegates will be voting for it.

Liz Littrell-Wilson is having a summer party with a Hawaiian theme at her home in Dimondale on Saturday evening Aug 8.  If you would like to attend contact Bill Maher.

Don’t forget next week’s meeting will be at Scheffel Toys, 5937 S MLK Blvd, same time, lunch will be provided.

Jim Dalton: The first Texas Hold ‘Em event we are going to do at Trippers is coming up on Monday Aug 31, Tuesday Sept 1 and Wednesday Sept 2.  We need 2 members there at all times during the 3 days.  On Monday we need 3 members there from 6:30pm to 8:00pm for a registration, I don’t have the details on that yet.

I have designated 7 chairpersons, we will have one on duty at all times.  If you are not a chairperson, sign up for the shift of your choice on the sign-up sheets I have provided.  We will have 2 shifts each day, if you want to double up with someone and split a shift, we can do that.  We have our license, paid the fee and set to go.

This is our fundraiser for the year, we need your help!  If you have questions… call me, Jim Dalton, at 324-1050.

Songs

Everyone was happy to see Clyde back at the piano, especially Roger Grove who led the singing of “Wait ‘till the Sun Shines Nellie,” “On Kiwanis” and “Smile.”

Happy Bucks

Roger Grove, my happy buck is for Clyde, great to have our piano player back.

Jim Dalton, my happy buck is for all the members, who are  going to sign up to help out at our Texas Hold ‘Em nights.

Roger Donaldson, a happy buck to be back and another for our speaker.

Chuck Reifsnyder, I have a happy buck for my daughter Rita who is doing well after being  hit by a car when crossing the street at a marathon in DeWitt.  She is recovering with stitches, bruises and broken bones.  Best wishes for a full recovery from us Kiwanians!

John Roy Castillo, a happy buck for our speaker Barb Byrum and another to tell my ‘politician’ story.  (Funny story but you have to call John for the details) and a third happy buck for the Cristo Rey Golf Outing on Sept 11 at Briarwood.

Dennis Churchill, a happy buck for our speaker and another for my granddaughter who just spent a great week with her friend at Martha’s Vineyard.

Terry Holzhausen, a happy buck for my bike trip a couple weeks ago to Colorado and points west  and another for my daughter and grandson who are visiting us for a few days.

Barb Byrum, a happy buck for a recent golf game, my first in over 3 years.
