Lou Leitz: We have an inter-club at the South Lansing Kiwanis Club tomorrow morning at the Delhi Café in Holt.  Meeting time, 7:30am.

Bill Maher: Those of you who were not here last week and did not get a chance to sign up for the committees of your choice… I have the sheets available here for you to do just that.

Dick Skinner: For those of you who are on the Human and Spiritual Values Committee, we are meeting on Tuesday morning Aug 26^th at 7:01am at the Flapjack Restaurant on the west side of town.  I may buy breakfast for those attending but I emphasize the word may.

The Noon News with Nicholas Ferreri

Nicholas reminded us WWII was ended on this day in 1945 when President Truman announced the unconditional surrender of Japan.  He also had some interesting information from the Olympics, such as Michael Phelps voracious appetite, consuming 12,000 calories a day. And then there was the story about the youngster in Pennsylvania whose walkie-talkie with the big ears was picking up the conversations of the truck drivers on the turn pike.

Happy Bucks

Norm Miller, I have a happy buck for today’s speaker Charles Ballard.  My grandson Blake took Dr. Ballard’s economics class last semester and received a 4.0.

Rick Librizzi, a happy buck for the reminder I got on the radio coming over… in 1935 President Roosevelt signed the act entitling everyone to social security.  Since there are so many gray hairs in here I thought it was worth a buck to remind you

Chuck Reifsnyder, a happy buck for the Lansing State Journal’s front page article on my gymnast granddaughter last Sunday. 

Terry Holzhausen, my happy buck is for Carla, glad to see her back with us today.

Clyde Flory, my happy buck is to add to Chuck’s comments about his granddaughter, Jordyn Weiber. The article on the front page included pictures and the headline reads, DeWitt Gymnast Riding High.  Thirteen year old Jordyn is the National Elite Gymnastics Champion for her age group, 12 through 15 year olds

Gary Brya, a happy buck for the 10 under and the first place our team took in a scramble on Tuesday and the 4 under and first place this morning.  Secret… good partners.

Dennis Churchill, a happy buck for my son-in-law who is struggling through chemotherapy and our grand children who are back in Chicago and New York ready for the fall semester.

Roger Conrad, my happy bucks are for Magic Johnson’s birthday today and to be back from our summer holiday which seemed very short.

Bob Nelson, a happy buck for someone who is first and foremost an American but also a Wolverine, Michael Phelps.

Bill Maher, my buck is half sad and half glad… the Tigers are in the toilet but it won’t cost Larry a lot of money for the number of games won.

Larry Pingel, a happy buck for my oldest daughter who is marrying a med student this fall and is gainfully employed in Detroit.  My second buck is for the good weather Nicholas is forecasting for the weekend when my wife and I will be playing golf at Shanty Creek.

Program

Program chairman Harry Kost introduced today’s speaker Dr. Charles Ballard. Dr. Ballard is a professor of economics at Michigan State University and presented an in depth picture of Michigan’s economy, how we got to this point and expressed his views on what needs to happen to turn it around.
