Rick Olivarez was a guest today of John Castillo. Mr. Olivarez is State Advocate for Migrant Workers, Michigan Dept. of Labor and Economic Growth.

Joe Manzella was a guest of Nicholas Ferreri.  Nicholas met Joe’s mother, Lt. Governor of Div. 3, at the State convention last weekend in Kalamazoo and it was her suggestion he invite Joe to attend our meeting.

Jim Kost: Because of the holiday our Sept Board meeting will be on Monday, Sept 8.

A reminder, on Sept 25 we will have a joint meeting in Mason with the Mason Kiwanis Club. This will be a dinner meeting and will include induction of officers and exchange of the Lt. Governor’s banner from Liz Luttrell-Wilson to our Bob Nelson. 

Clarence Smith: As incoming President I would like all committee chairman to attend the Board meeting on Sept 8.  I would ask that you have you committee budget prepared so we can finalize the budget for the coming year.  The meeting is at 12 noon here at Cascarlli’s.

The Noon News with Nicholas Ferreri

Nicholas delivered the noon news in his usual professional style noting the Michigan High School Athletic Association will provide video coverage of high school football games on Comcast channel’s 900 and 901. My apologies for  inaccurate and incomplete information… my recorder died.

Bob Nelson, a happy buck for the State Kiwanis Convention which I attended as your new Lt. Governor.

Nicholas Ferreri, also a happy buck for a fun time at the convention, informative and time for some socializing as well.

Yvonne Groak, a happy buck to be alive after almost being run down by crazy driver.

Clarence Smith, and I have a happy buck for a great experience attending the convention with Bob and Nicholas. I also got to make a Boy Scout presentation to Youth Services.

Bill Maher, a happy buck for Carla, she just finished her last treatment and the prognosis is excellent.

Program

Harry Kost in his last week as program chairman introduced today’s speaker Roger Hoopingarner.  Dr. Hoopingarner is professor emeritus at Michigan State University where he has been on the faculty for 39 years. Dr. Hoopingarner has conducted bee research on a variety of subjects.  He has spent considerable time in Arizona with his involvement there on an environmental refuge on the Mexican border. He spoke in detail today regarding the conditions and problems on the border and some suggestions on what the solutions might be.

He responded to several questions from those in attendance.  John Roy Castillo and Rick Olivarez also discussed the situation from there perspectives.
