October 8, 2009 Meeting

 Announcements

Carla Johnston: I have a letter from the Eaton Rapids Club. They are planning a super Inter-Club at noon on October 13.  Inter-Club Relations Committee please note.

Three months in the next year are still open for program chairman.  I have the sign-up sheet here again and will give you another chance to take advantage of this opportunity.

I have passed out a Club Evaluation Questionnaire to each of you. Take a few minutes to review each statement, and select the response that best represents your experience. Please return it no later than, Thursday, Oct 29.

Tom Renton has advised me he has taken a new job, no longer with Polack Corp, and has resigned from the Club.

The minutes from Tuesday's Board meeting are on the tables for your review.

Bob Nelson: The Youth Services Committee met this morning discussing the dictionary program.  We decided to keep the same member/school assignments as last year. Contact me if you are not clear on your school assignment. We picked up a couple of schools from the South Lansing Kiwanis Club this year, Lansing Christian and Cumberland.

The books should be here in about a week so you can begin calling school principals now to arrange a date for delivery.  Glenn Mulder and his wife will be placing our stamp in the books, we will bring them here for member pick-up. We hope to have the project completed by the middle of November.

Sue Devon: We will have our first Membership Committee meeting here next Thursday at 11:15am. I will send everyone on the committee a reminder.

Bill Maher: I have copies of the committee assignments here, if you don't have one take one. They are also posted on the website.

I have a letter from the DeWitt Kiwanis Club. They are sponsoring ragtime piano player "Bob Milne" in concert at the DeWitt Junior High School at 3:30pm this Sunday.

A reminder to committee chairs to advise me of the participation of their members in their projects.  As you know this is credited for perfect attendance records.

Clarence Smith: Members of the Public Relations Committee will meet again with Youth Services at their meetings.  I will advise you of these meeting dates as they are scheduled.

Nicholas Ferreri: I attended the Key Club meeting yesterday at Eastern High School. Joel Lubick has another group of Key Clubbers ready to go with several projects, such as 'Pasta for Pennies,' 'Listening Ear Walk' on Oct 31 and 'painting pumpkins' for kids in Sparrow Hospital on Wed Oct 21.  I have a sign-up sheet if you would like to join this effort.

The Board again approved paying $5 of each students $10 Key Club dues.

We are starting something new this year 'Key Clubber of the Month.'  The award will go to the Key Club member who makes a special contribution each month and will receive a certificate and also goodies from McDonald and Burger King.

Rod Conrad: The annual Crop Walk is this Sunday at 12;30pm. If you would like to volunteer to help, let me know.  A pledge sheet is being circulated if you would like to support this worthy effort.

The Noon News

The story of body parts missing from an exhibit in Peru and news from roving reporter Bill Maher that there will not be a nativity scene in Washington, DC this year as they have been unable to find 3 wise men.  And the weather forecast,...  no promise of 'Indian Summer' anytime soon.

Songs

With Clyde back at the piano, Jim McCartney led the singing of "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" (next year) and "Smile."

Happy Bucks

Jim McCartney, I have a happy buck, on this day in 1927 the New York Yankees won the World Series and I made an appearance for the first time.  I also have a check for the endowment fund.

Norm Miller, I have 6 happy bucks since on this day in 1949 Nina said "I do." She must have meant it because today is our 60th anniversary.

Jim Kost, I have 4 happy quarters for the MSU win over U of M in 4 quarters and overtime last Saturday.

Jo Grubbe, a happy buck for a nice end of the year trip to Mackinac Island. The weather on Friday looked like some seen on 'The Deadliest Catch' but turned nice on Sat and Sun.

Harry Kost, last week I said I would give $2 if MSU beat U of M.  Well, here's the $2.

Chuck Reifsnyder, my happy buck is a little early, but I don't want to be late... next Wed, Oct 14, is our 59th wedding anniversary.

Ev Beemer, I have a couple of happy bucks, I was happy to be reminded I was President in 1987 and also for the pot I won last week.
Dick Skinner,
a happy buck for last Sunday when we celebrated our 51st anniversary.  I also have 2010 calendars for every one, my wife suggested I get them out early this year.

Clarence Smith, I have a happy buck for our guest speaker today, a friend of mine, and another for the first meeting in a year I haven't had to do lot's of talking.

Program

Chairman of the month Clarence Smith introduced his speaker for the day, Trina Tulber. Ms Tulber, who is with Comerica Bank, discussed many of the events occurring  in the banking industry in the past year and how her bank responded to them.
