 Announcements

Lou Leitz: We would like to have an inter-club at the new Maple Valley Club near Nashville on Saturday, Oct 24 at 7:00pm. If you can go, let me know.

Larry Pingel: Although I lost the schedule of those signed up to serve lunch at the City Rescue Mission the 3rd Monday's of Oct, Nov and Dec, we do have them identified.  Norm will put a reminder in the Krier at the appropriate time.

Rod Conrad: The Human and Spiritual Aims Committee will meet next Tuesday, Oct 20, 7:30am at the Flapjack Restaurant on Waverly Road.

Bob Nelson: On the tables are sheets with the dictionary delivery assignments.  Check to see if your assignment is correct.  There are some open spots, we need your help to get those filled.  The dictionaries have been ordered and we may have them here next week.  Start calling the school principles to arrange for your delivery.

Bill Maher: The past Presidents Dinner honoring Clarence Smith will be at the Hall of Fame Restaurant next Wed at 6:00pm.  If you are a past President and haven't signed up, let me know today.

Clarence Smith: Next Thursday we will have orientation for our new members, Robert Haney, Darren Duso and Trina Tulber.  Following that, at our regular meeting, we will have their induction into our Club. and discussed sponsoring a tree at the Lansing Festival of Trees on Nov 20,21 and 22nd.  We could have a table there and our members could hand out information to promote Kiwanis. The membership committee has no budget and since the Club no longer contributes to Silver Bells we thought that money might be available for this project.

Yvonne Groak: I would like to have a meeting of our Community Services Committee in this room next Thursday at 11:15am. Members are Miller, Beemer, McCartney, Leitz, Lynch, Lorencen, Flory, Devon, Reifsnyder, Castillo and Brya.

Carla Johnston: Last week I handed out Club questionnaires. If you haven't already done so please complete yours and turn it in. If you did not get one, I will have them available next week.  It's important to know your opinion and what you're thinking.

Jo Grubbe: Last week Bob Nelson drew the joker and won the big pot so it is my pleasure to present him with a check for  $191.

October Birthdays

Yvonne Groak: We have lot's of Kiwanis birthdays this month.  Clyde Flory Oct 2, Larry Pingel Oct 11, Glenn Mulder Oct 12, Gary Brya Oct 13, Roger Donaldson Oct 29, Carla Johnston Oct 6 and Jim McCartney on Oct 8.

There were interesting comments from those present including from Larry Pingel whose birthday was last Sunday and missed celebrating with his new grandson who was born a few minutes before midnight on Saturday. The little guy's initials are BMW so his nickname is... "Beamer" (or is it "Beemer"). Anyway Happy Birthday to all and congratulations to Grandpa Pingel on the arrival of his second grandchild.

Songs

Roger Grove, Clyde Flory and a couple of great old songs "Won't You Come Home Bill Bailey" and "Good Old Summertime."

Happy Bucks

Larry Pingel, a happy buck because I am still 5 days younger than Carla, a check for the Foundation and a happy buck for my new grandson.

Clarence Smith, I have a happy buck for our guest speaker today.

Sue Devon, I have one because Bob told me I had to put it in. (Did you notice the item in the LSJ business section this week... Sue was promoted to Assistant General Manager of the Lansing Board of Water and Light)

Roger Grove, a happy buck for Greg's new hips and my new knee.  They all are working well.

Program

October program chairman Clarence Smith introduced today's guest speaker, Carol Buzzitta. Ms. Buzzitta  is Executive Director of Expectant Parents Organization a non-profit providing training and information to families in Mid-Michigan for the past 66 years.

Pot Winner

The winner of the Pot today, Greg Hagbom.  No joker this week.
