October 30, 2008 Meeting
Announcements
Jim Kost: I have some
more certificates to present today… perfect attendance, 7 yrs Larry Pingel, 2 yrs Clyde
Flory and 20 yrs to Roger Grove… serving as committee chairs last
year, Jim Dalton and Clyde Flory.
Bob Nelson: I have
completed my visits to all the Div 16 Clubs and thanks
the inter-club group for attending most of those meetings. Tomorrow the
International President will be speaking in Mason and Clarence and I will be
attending. We will be reporting back to those who cannot attend.
Clarence Smith: I have been in contact with the Lansing Sesquicentennial
Committee and there are 5 signature events that will take place. The event we
hope to have the Club involved in is the “Labor of Love Festival” Sept
4-6. We will keep you informed as we go
along. For information on the Sesquicentennial
go to >> www.lansing150.com
Terry Holzhausen: The Endowment Fund has agreed to pay for the
dictionaries again this year and that project will be coming very soon. I am sure all the members will want to be
involved and make this a successful project again this year.
Larry Pingel: The Human and Spiritual Values Committee is doing
some checking to see what opportunities there are for possibly serving dinner’s
at the Rescue Mission or the Salvation Army.
When the opportunity arises, please sign up.
Bill Maher: The new roster books have been printed and
are available. There is one with your
name, member number, etc. on it
The Board of Directors will meet
here next Tuesday, Nov 4, at noon.
Bob Holden: I have been attending some meetings and we are
considering a Sesquicentennial activity as a fundraiser… “Ducks
in the River.” This could be our
big fundraiser for the year. I will keep
you advised.
Songs
Roger
Grove did the honors
today with the help of Clyde at the piano…
“Take Me Down to Kiwanis” and “Smile.”
Happy Bucks
Bob Nelson, a happy buck for my visit to the East Lansing Club
on Monday. I had to sit through 15 happy
bucks for the MSU victory. I was glad to
have Nicholas there with me.
Larry Pingel, a happy buck for the MSU win. I
was home holding my new little granddaughter who was decked out in Spartan
green. Her Dad, who is a Michigan
alum, was at the game and I am sending him a picture a day of me holding
his Spartan daughter.
Harry Kost, a happy buck for our speaker who is affiliated with
the McCrea House. Starting the McCrea
House was one of the first projects of the Lansing Golden K.
Jim Dalton, happy buck to be here… while Bob is visiting other Clubs I though I would
come and visit mine.
Clyde Flory, a happy buck for our visit to Las
Vegas and the sites in the area. We are not gamblers
but I did use a credit someone had left on a machine, and the machine went
wild. It said you are the grand winner of 10,000,
unfortunately it was a penny machine. We
just finished baby sitting in Grand Rapids and
are about to leave for 2 weeks of baby house sitting in Boston.
Roger Grove, a happy buck for the perfect attendance recognition I received and
another for Gary Brya who has been
just a fine ‘meals on wheels’ partner for the past 15 or so years.
Dennis Churchill, a happy buck for a happy Halloween and
another for MSU’s victory last Saturday and for their victory next Saturday
over Wisconsin.
Gary Brya, I didn’t have my checkbook when Yvonne recognized birthdays but I have a
$64 check for another year.
Jo Grubbe, I have a happy buck for our speaker Kay Walters who I have known for many
years.
Jim Kost, I have a happy buck for a MSU win Saturday against Wisconsin. Also when you
have a 5 week month and all your speakers show up, that is also worth a buck.
Program
Jim Kost introduced his last October speaker
Kay Walters. Today Mrs. Walters was
representing “Gift of Life” an organization promoting the donation of
organs. She herself was the successful
recipient of a heart transplant 10 years ago at Henry Ford Hospital and discussed this experience
and how it has changed her life. Information
on the “Gift of Life” at
>> http://www.donors1.org
Pot Winner
Jim Dalton was today’s lucky winner
and promptly donated his winnings to the Club. No joker today
