November 19, 2009 Meeting

The Noon News

Today Nicholas had news of an exotic dessert in Bogotá, a strange 911 call and a hilarious assortment of church bulletin gaffs. Rain the next couple of days, but sunny on the weekend.

 Announcements

Bob Nelson: On the tables are signup sheets for Thanksgiving baskets.

Tomorrow at 9:00am we will be picking up the food at the L&L Food Center, 2380 Cedar St in Holt and taking it to Otto Middle School. Alex Norton is providing the Salvation Army truck.

We will assemble the baskets on Monday:  8:00am at Hildebrandt, 3120 N Turner St and 10:00am at  LaRoy Froh, Reo St (just west of Pleasant Grove).

If you have signed up check the sheet to verify your scheduled shift.

Our dictionary project is nearly completed. Let me know the school and number of dictionaries you have delivered so I can include it in my report.

Ray Easton: Next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov 23/24/25 is our Texas Hold 'em event.. We still need people for a couple of shifts, sign up if you can help.

Carla Johnston: Because of Thanksgiving our meeting will be on TUESDAY next week.

This weekend downtown is the Festival of Trees and an opportunity to help our new member, Bob Haney at this event.  We will have a tree there, thanks to Sue Devon and the Membership Committee.

Yesterday Bob Nelson and I went down to Cooley Law School and there seems to be interest in starting a Circle K Club there.  This would give us Club sponsorship at every level.

I received a memo from International saying Harry Kost has now sponsored over 100 Kiwanis members. Congratulations Harry.

Bill Maher: I have a signup sheet for the Christmas party which will be here at the Eagles on Friday, Dec 18 at 6:00pm.

Nicholas Ferreri: You will be happy to know Clarence Smith and I visited Mid Michigan Leadership Academy this week for the first Builders Club meeting of the year and I am happy to report we had a classroom full of students there ready to go.  Hopefully we will have some good projects going on there in the coming year. I will keep you posted.

Rod Conrad: If anyone hasn't signed up for Bell Ringing at the Lansing Mall on Saturday Dec 19 we still have a few spots open.

I have been given the opportunity to buy oranges and grapefruit by the case or half case.  If you are interested see me, I am sending in the order this afternoon.

Yvonne Groak recognized the November birthdays of Jeff Lorencen, Robert Haney and Richard Borucki.  None were present but Yvonne entertained us with a couple of her humorous stories.

Songs

Roger Grove, this week with the help of Clyde Flory at the piano, led the singing of "When Kiwanis Calls" and "Auld Lang Syne."

Happy Bucks

Harry Kost, a happy buck for MSU's victory last week over Purdue and for the way Minnesota rolled over South Dakota State.
Clyde Flory,
a happy buck for 2 weeks with the grandkids in the Boston area and 4 days of medical meetings in downtown Boston.

Gary Brya, a happy buck for the DeWitt football team. Hopefully they will get to Ford Field.

Rob Conrad, 5 special happy bucks for our new granddaughter, Madeleine, born yesterday.

Sue Devon, I have a happy buck to remind everyone the Board of Water and Light is the signature sponsor of Silver Bells in the City tomorrow.  I hope everybody can make it there and check out the Festival of Trees as well.

Gil Hill, a happy buck because they rescinded my layoff and I will be going back to work.

Program

November Program Chairman Greg Hagbom introduced his speaker for the day Mike Ramsby  from Gadaleto, Ramsby & Associates, a statewide Managing Agent for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan and the Blue Care Network.  His discussion focused on health care costs.
