November 24, 2009 Meeting

 Announcements

Bob Nelson: I would like to thanks all those who helped with the Thanksgiving baskets yesterday and on Friday. I would also like to thank those that have made a donation to help fund this project. We have not yet covered our expenses so it is not too late to help.

The Youth Services Committee will meet here on Thursday, Dec 3rd at 11:30am.

Bill Maher: A reminder the Christmas party which will be here at the Eagles on Friday, Dec 18 at 6:00pm.  Sign-up sheets are on the tables or call me at 627-8131.

I received thank you letters from many of the third graders at Gier Park School for the dictionaries Norm and I delivered there a couple of weeks ago.  I will pass them around, you will enjoy reading them.

Carla Johnston: We have some time today so I would like to read an internet story brought to my attention.  The story is about Monopoly sets included in Red Cross packages for British POW's  having secret silk maps hidden in the game pieces.  The game sets also included real currency inside the fake money, small magnetic compasses and a two piece metal file.

I am happy to report we have another application for membership. (I will have her name next week but if you are not a native of Wacousta you may have to consult Lance Lynch for the correct pronunciation.) This will be our fifth new member since the beginning of the Kiwanis calendar year in October.

The Board of Directors will meet at noon next Tuesday at Grumpy's.

Songs

Roger Grove, with the support of Clyde at the piano, led the singing of "Amazing Grace" and ""Prayer of Thanksgiving".  Roger also related the interesting story of the origin of "Amazing Grace."

Happy Bucks

Bill Maher, a happy buck for some Larry the Cable Guy humor.

Jo Grubbe, a happy buck for Thanksgiving and a successful week of Texas Hold 'em.

Carla Johnston, a happy buck for the members that showed up today prior to Thanksgiving and for the great lunches Debbie has been providing here at the Eagles.

Roger Grove, a happy buck since I have removed the last piece of furniture from my office.

Program

Greg Hagbom, November program chairman, had his scheduled speaker cancel this week so he came up with a substitution... himself.  Greg very ably explained the new laws effecting IRA's and other investments as well as fielding investment questions from members.

Pot Winner

This week's Pot winner was Dr. Clyde Flory.  No joker.

More from Secretary Bill Maher:

A request from Patrice Green, Director of the VFW home in Eaton Rapids

A VFW Member I ran into this week told me about a little boy who lives in South Lyon, Michigan.  He is 5 years old and has late stage cancer.  The family said he enjoys getting and opening cards and they would like him to get as many Christmas Cards as possible, and as soon as possible.  Will you please help?  Sending cards this week would not be too soon. :

His address: Noah Biorkman, 1141 Fountain View Circle, South Lyon, MI  48178

It turns out we will not able to meet at the Eagles on Wednesday's as planned for the Holiday weeks.  We will resolve the meeting schedule at next weeks Board meeting.

Members, PLEASE BRING A NEW UNWRAPPED TOY, for Toys for Tots by December 10th.
