December 3, 2009 Meeting

Guests

Two inter-clubs were visiting today, Lt Governor Ruth Milbourne with 4 members from the Delta Township Club and 5 members from the Holt Club.

The Noon News

More interesting news stories like the kids rapping to get service at a McDonalds and a forecast for our first snowfall of the season in the next couple of days.  Nicholas also had the last of the hilarious church bulletin bloopers.

 Announcements

Carla Johnston: The Board meeting minutes for last Tuesday's meeting are on the table for your review.

The Salvation Army red kettle is circulating... keep in mind Lance Lynch's generous pledge to match our contributions up to $500.

There is also a basket on the table giving us an opportunity to show our appreciation for those serving us the appetizing lunches each week.

Robert Haney: Our Festival of Trees went very well a couple of weeks ago, although we were hoping for a few more people. All the non-profits and schools, including our Kiwanis Club, sold their trees and wreathes and made money.

Bill Maher: The Christmas party is right here at the Eagles on Friday, December 18 at 6:00pm. If you have not signed up, the signup sheet is going around.  We will need to give them a count pretty soon.

Bob Nelson: Thanks again for all who helped with the Thanksgiving baskets.  We are still looking for contributions for this project.. We have raised $600 and need about $600 more.

The dictionary project is going very well, we have delivered over 600 dictionaries and have 3 schools to go.  I received some thank you letters from the kids at Elmhurst where Lou and I delivered the dictionaries.  One said it was great because her parents can't spell, another wants to join Kiwanis and a third because now I tell my sister "Hah in your face,  mine is better than the one Kiwanis gave you a year or two ago."

Larry Pingel: I passed around a signup sheet for volunteers to serve lunch at the City Mission and we have filled the first quarter.  Those signed up for December 21 are listed below.

Jim Dalton: Thanks to all the members who worked at the Texas Hold 'em tournament last week. Our members responded very well including 3 of our new members, Rob Haney, Sue Devon and Trina Pulver.

Carla Johnston: I would like to present this award to Harold Krauss for 54 years of perfect attendance.  Wow!

Songs

Roger Grove with the help of Clyde Flory at the piano, led the singing of "Joy to the World" and "The First Noel."

Happy Bucks

Larry Pingel. a happy buck to be back after a couple of weeks of vacation and another to have my glasses back.  I thought I had lost them when having lunch at the Flapjack so I went back there and after an extensive search a lady noticed they were clipped over my sweater.

Roger Grove, a happy buck because I do those things but there is an excuse for me.

Harry Kost, a happy buck for Tiger Woods wife who is a 19.  A 10 with a 9 iron.

Jim Dalton, a happy buck for a disturbing thought I had of Dick Skinner rapping for service at a McDonalds.

John Roy Castillo, a happy buck for Dick Skinner who commented I have missed several meetings but when I'm here Dick is not here.  I went to a breakfast this morning at the Capital Area Health Alliance where the Cristo Rey Health Clinic received a Community Service Award for the heath services we provide to the community. I bring this up because a couple of years ago this Kiwanis Club gave us money to buy an ultra sound machine.

Dick Skinner, a happy buck to see John Roy here today.

Ruth Milbourne, a happy buck to have lunch at the Downtown Club.

Rob Haney, a happy buck for the Festival of Trees which raised money for 82 non-profit organizations.

Jo Grubbe, a happy buck for our guest speaker today.
