December 4, 2008 Meeting

 Announcements

Clarence Smith: I have noticed at times when members are speaking there are side-bar conversations going on.  Let’s respect all our members and give whoever has the floor our full attention.  This will ensure that everyone can hear announcements or other remarks.

Harry Kost: Each year I get a book of coupons from Goodyear, good for a discount on tires. I would be glad to share them with anyone planning to buy tires.

Bill Maher: I have the sign-up sheet for the Christmas party next Thursday evening, Dec 11.  If you haven’t signed up, and are planning to attend, do so today.  There will be a cash bar starting at 6:30pm, there will be several entrée’s to select from, the cost is $30 per couple including desert.  You will be billed on your next quarterly statement.  James White, Okemos attorney, will have a presentation on his trip to Antarctica.  No noon meeting.

Thanks to those that brought a toy for “Toys for Tots.”  I can also accept unwrapped toys next week at our Christmas dinner meeting.

Ron Conrad:  I have passed out a schedule to all those that have signed up for belling ringing at the Lansing Mall on Sat Dec 13.  This is one of our important activities and I appreciate the support you have given it again this year.

Carla Johnston: I have the dictionary distribution schedule and I will pass those out.  They are basically the same as last year.  If there are those who need to change your assignment, work it out among yourselves.  The dictionaries can be picked up at my office, Payne-Rosso, 3220 N MLK Blvd. We would like to complete the project in the next  two weeks.

Note: Harry Kost does not have an assignment… if anyone needs a partner, call him.

The Noon News with Nicholas Ferreri

Because of my schedule I was not able to prepare the news this week however my field correspondent, Bill Maher, has submitted this report about the older gentleman who didn’t say a word to the pilot when his wife fell out of the helicopter so he could save $50.  Stay tuned… you may be able to hear the story on channel 10.

Happy Bucks

Harry Kost, a happy buck because North Carolina is not in the Big Ten conference.

Dick Skinner, a happy buck for a cruise with several family members last week celebrating our 50th anniversary.  Congratulations to Carolyn and Richard!

Greg Hagbom, a happy buck for our speaker Dr Wycoff, an OBGYN and prominent member of the Lansing community for many years and another for his wife who is with him today.

Chuck Reifsnyder, my daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter have returned from Belgium where my granddaughter Jordyn competed in an international gymnastics competition and won first place in everything.

Jim Dalton, I have a happy buck for Dr Wycoff as well. He is former chief of staff at Sparrow Hospital and will give us a great program.

Yvonne Groak, I have a happy buck for my neighbor who has a snow blower and loves to use it.

Larry Pingel, a happy buck for my youngest daughter who got married last week.  I went and saw the Spartans at Ford Field last night… oh well, I had a nice dinner at Mario’s.

Dennis Churchill, a dollar for everyone who was so kind to us with the passing of our son-in-law. He is no longer suffering. I have a happy buck for my daughter who was accepted at the Johns Hopkins nursing program in Baltimore and will become a nurse practitioner.

Bob Holden, I talked to Glenn Mulder last night. As you know Glenn is in Key West and he told me of the experience he had with a whale shark that was as big as his boat and followed him for awhile.

John Wycoff, I have a happy dollar, we are very proud to have a new grandson.

 

Program

Dick Skinner, program chairman of the week, introduced today’s speaker Dr. John Wycoff.  Dr. Wycoff has practiced medicine in Lansing for many years and in 2003 received Michigan’s highest award, the Governor’s Award for Excellence.  He currently operates the Wycoff Wellness Center in East Lansing where his focus is on exploring natural solutions to many health problems and concerns.  He provides treatment using bioidendical substances, derived from plants, rather than pharmaceuticals in many cases.

Pot Winner

Today’s winner, Terry Holzhausen.  Terry drew a 2 of clubs.
