The Noon News

News from Nicholas Ferreri that you can't get anywhere else.  The story of an annual winter occurrence, a little boy gets his tongue frozen to a metal pole.  Some "and then the fight started" stories provided by correspondent Chuck Reifsnyder. The weather forecast for the weekend... winter.

 Announcements

Lou Leitz: We would like to start our annual inter-club visits next Wednesday at the Lansing Golden K at 10:00am.  I need 4 members to join me and it looks like I have them.  Thank you.

Bill Maher: Our Christmas party is here on Friday Dec 18 at 6:00pm.  It is suggested that you bring either food or a cash donation for the Food Bank. Anyone wanting to attend and has not signed up, let me know.

The meeting schedule for the rest of December:

·         Thursday December 17

·         Friday December 18 Christmas Party

·         No meeting Christmas week

·         Thursday December 31

Jo Grubbe: We have $611 in the Salvation Army kettle. From Lance Lynch who generously pledged to match donations up to $500... "The check is in the mail."

My suggestion is that for the remainder of the year we contribute to the turkey fund, it needs contributions.

Roger Conrad: The Spiritual Aims Committee will meet next Tuesday, Dec 15 at the Frandor Flapjack Restaurant at 7:30am.

I think everyone here has a copy of the bell ringing schedule on Sat Dec 19.  The schedule is filled, thank your very much.

Nicholas Ferreri: We made the paper with an article and picture for the Key Club Member of the Month Award. Joel Lubick and Jim McCartney told me they got a lot of good feedback as a result of this. The next award will be next Wednesday at 2:35pm at Eastern High School.  Joe will make the award. I will not be able to be there however if any members would like to attend let me know.

Bob Nelson: We still need money for the Thanksgiving  baskets.  We are at around $650 and need another $650 to meet our goal of $1,300.  These are contributions to the Endowment Fund, so they are tax deductable.

Jim Dalton: Mark your calendars - our next Texas Hold 'em events at Trippers.

June 28/29/30 and Oct 25/26/27.

Songs

Roger Grove again led the singing, this week without accompaniment. "Jingle Bells" and "Hark the Herald Angels Sing."

Happy Bucks

Dennis Churchill, a happy buck for this picture of a Yunker Santa Claus memorial which I had at the convention about 10 years ago.

Jim McCartney, a happy buck for the fun time I had visiting the Eastern High School Key Club.  Joe Lubick does a wonderful job with that group.  I have another happy buck for my granddaughter Jennifer Scarborough, who on Nov 1 became the Confidential Assistant to the Secretary of the Navy.  Later this month she will be in Saudi Arabia.

Dick Skinner, my happy buck to let the bell ringers know the Salvation Army is accepting credit cards this year.  And oh, did you know, Tiger Woods is now know as Cheetah.

Harry Kost,  my happy buck is for Nicholas and Jim for their work with the Quaker Key Club.

Rob Haney, a happy buck for being given the honor to do the pastry at the Mayor's inauguration.

Program

No speaker was scheduled this week so members brought up items of interest.  Harry Kost commented on the number of new members who joined recently and if we can keep it up Carla's term will be one of the best in a long time.  Carla talked about the possibilities for exposure on Facebook.  More on this later.  Larry Pingel described his very interesting trip to Australia... bats as big as an albatross (well almost). Dick Skinner mentioned he visited Miller Perry and said he would like more Kiwanis visitors. He is at:

Bickford Senior Living (Okemos Road, 1/2 mile north of Jolly Road)

Miller O Perry
3830 Okemos Rd, Apt 106
Okemos, MI 48864-3636
