December 18, 2008 Meeting

Guests

Very special guests today were Jim and Anne Freiburger.  Jim served as President of our Club in 1977-78 and although he has not lived in the area for several years he is still a member of our Club.  Jim and Anne are also currently members of the Colon, MI Kiwanis Club and Anne is their immediate past President.  Their visit today was a real pleasure.

 Announcements

Rod Conrad: Our bell ringers collected $1,147 in the two Salvation Army Kettles at the Lansing Mall last Saturday.  We had excellent participation by our members and also from several members of the Eastern High School Key Club.

The Human and Spiritual Values Committee will meet next Tuesday at the Frandor Flapjack Restaurant.  6:59am please!

Carla Johnston: Delivery of our dictionaries is going very well.  After this week only a couple of schools remaining and they will get their dictionaries right after the first of the year.  Thanks to everyone for your participation.

Bill Maher: Thanks for your attendance at our Christmas Party.  We filled the room and it was a fun evening.  Please confess if you had desert, I need to bill you.

Clarence Smith: I would like to remind you this is our last meeting until Wednesday, Dec 31.  No meeting next week. Minutes of our Dec 2 Board meeting are here for your review.

Lance Lynch: Although Yvonne is not recognizing December birthday’stoday, Lou and I brought birthday checks.  Since I will be gone for a few weeks I also have a $500 check to match your contributions to the Salvation Army.  I am sure the Club will meet their obligation.

Lou Leitz: Like Lance I have my birthday check here today celebrating my 91st birthday.

I have 14 great grandchildren and two more coming in February.

The Noon News with Nicholas Ferreri

The news and the story of a woman who found $97,000 in a tapestry bag hanging in a restroom at a Cracker Barrel restaurant. She was able to return the money to the rightful owner but refused the $1,000 reward for being honest.

The weather? Not so good… 6-10” of snow tonight and tomorrow.

Yvonne Groak, an apologetic buck because I forgot to order a birthday cake today, so we will celebrate December birthdays in two weeks.

Bill Maher, a happy buck for Jim and Anne Freiburger. I used to participate in a high stakes poker game with Jim and it is nice to visit with Jim and my money.

Jim Dalton, I have been missing from the Club for awhile and the first person I meet when I walk in today was Jim Freiburger.  I’m thinking… I am going backwards.

Bob Nelson, a happy buck for our speaker today Jeff Pillon.  Another for Lou Leitz who was just 91 and helped me deliver dictionaries this week.

Jo Grubbe, a happy buck to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. A time of year when we are so fortunate to have our family and friends while so many people are experiencing difficult times.

Dennis Churchill, a happy buck for the Freiburgers and another for our successful day of bell ringing last Saturday.

Clarence Smith, a happy buck for the work of the Club this fall and we are looking forward to a good year in 2009.

Clyde Flory, a happy buck for the three young girls from the Eastern Key Club that took over my scheduled bell ringing time slot last Saturday.

Anne Freiburger, a happy buck for a comment by a member that even though my Jim held all the Club offices, he still could not stay awake after lunch.

Jim Kost, my happy buck is also for the Freiburgers. This is a pretty popular couple.

Jeff Russell, a happy buck for all the support the Club is giving the Salvation Army again this year.

Harry Kost, a happy buck for a dinner Jim and Anne hosted when we were both officers of the Club.

 

Program

Bob Nelson introduced today’s speaker Jeff Pillon.  Mr. Pillon is with the Public Service Commission and Chair of Energy Data and Security Committee, National Association of State Energy Officials.  He gave us a detailed explanation of how crude oil prices and other factors effect the price of gasoline in Michigan.

Today’s pot winner was Mr. Harry Kost.  The joke eluded him.
